My hair is in decent shape because I don’t dye it (although I have been straightening it more often lately) but I always feel like it could use a bit more nourishment and be a bit shinier, so I am always looking for the shampoo/conditioner that can make it that way, especially since the ones I’ve been using for ages (I bought 1 L containers of a random brand that doesn’t even have a website at Winners) definitely do not do that. The most recent line I’ve tested is the TRESemme Renewal Hair & Scalp Shampoo*, Conditioner* and Conditioning Mask* a new line which contains tea tree extract and sunflower seed oil.
TRESemme Renewal Hair & Scalp Shampoo and Conditioner both come in massive containers that are incredibly affordable at the drugstore, while the TRESemme Renewal Conditioning Mask is less than a quarter of the size, but still a good price for a hair mask as the products sell for about $5.99. This is really budget haircare, but the results don’t feel like it!
TRESemme Renewal Hair & Scalp Shampoo is a creamy, fairly thick shampoo that does a great job leaving my hair feeling strengthened although I definitely like using a conditioning product in combination to make it as manageable as possible. The scent of the line is pretty nice but I prefer the Platinum Strength from TRESemme as it smells a bit different to me. That said, it’s not overwhelming and it doesn’t really leave behind much besides a “clean” salon scent. The bottle is massive, but it lathers well so you don’t need a ton of product which means this will pretty much last me forever.
The TRESemme Renewal Hair & Scalp Conditioner is a perfect match to the shampoo, with a similar scent and massive bottle. I use the conditioner on all my hair, and leave it in for a few minutes before rinsing out. This is a very thick and rich conditioner and I find it leaves my hair nice and soft and shiny. Also I feel like it minimizes some of the frizz I get in my hair, even if I don’t use any other products after my shower.
The final product I tried from this system is the TRESemme Renewal Hair & Scalp Conditioning Mask, which I was pretty excited about because I am pretty addicted to hair masks. I had just fallen in love with the TRESemme Platinum Strength Deep Conditioning Treatment so I was actually a bit sad to have to stop using it and test out this one instead. However, this was also a fantastic product. When using it, I tend to focus on the bottom half of my hair and then apply any excess product to the top. I like to switch up using this conditioning mask and the conditioner, although I have also used both for extra shiny hair, I generally don’t find it necessary.
It is hard to compare, but I do think I slightly prefer the Platinum Strength hair mask to the Renewal one, however it is very close! I also only tested out the hair mask from the other line, whereas here I got to use all three products, so the overall result was definitely more dramatic and I loved using all three products together. In comparison, the price of the conditioning mask is a lot more than the matching shampoo and conditioner— although still very affordable— but I did notice a difference when using it and still like it for about once or twice a week. That said, depending on how much moisture your hair needs you may be able to get away with just the shampoo and conditioner, as they both provide fantastic nourishment on their own. After using these products, I actually feel like my hair is stronger and healthier.
Overall, the TRESemme Renewal Hair & Scalp Shampoo, Conditioner and Conditioning Mask were all a huge success for me. I love that TRESemme is doing such great products at such an affordable price. I don’t own any salon products to compare, but I don’t feel the need to with drugstore offerings like this. These are great, nourishing, strengthening products and I have even noticed my boyfriend reaching for them too. A definite success and I am excited to try more products from TRESemme in the future– their Flawless Curls and Smooth & Silky lines both have my attention!
