I actually don’t use dry shampoo, because as a curly-haired girl I don’t generally find my hair getting greasy before I wash it. The one exception to that is when I straighten my hair it seems to get oily much faster. I did try out a dry shampoo once for those cases but found it left a white cast without doing much, so I was a bit skeptical when I tried TRESemme Fresh Start Volumizing Dry Shampoo*.
TRESemme Fresh Start Volumizing Dry Shampoo is made with Mineral Clay and Citrus, and has a bit of a powdery, citrus-like scent that helps freshen up your hair but isn’t too powerful or overwhelming. I have very dark hair, and for me the most important test is whether a dry shampoo leaves a white cast, and luckily, this one did not!
To test it out I applied it to straightened hair on the third day, when I was planning to wash it and had it tied back all day- so yes, it looks a bit gross, sorry! I applied a generous amount of TRESemme Fresh Start Volumizing Dry Shampoo directly at the roots of my hair in sections but not much on the top layer. I didn’t brush it through my hair, but instead simply rubbed it in a bit with my fingers.
Hopefully you can tell from the photos, but I was pretty impressed with the TRESemme Fresh Start Volumizing Dry Shampoo results. It did add volume– and you could definitely get it to add more if you wanted, but my favourite part was the way it managed to really soak up any oils in my hair, leaving it feeling dry and matte. I ended up testing it out overnight, and my hair still looked fine in the morning so I braided it and went to work. No judgement for how long that means I went without washing my hair please! It’s all in the name of beauty blogging 😉
Overall, I had pretty good success with the TRESemme Fresh Start Volumizing Dry Shampoo. My size is extremely travel friendly so I can easily take it with me when I have straightened my hair. I will say that I don’t really have that “fine/oily” hair this product is targeted at, but it worked very well on my hair. I wouldn’t say this has turned me into a total dry shampoo convert, but consider me curious…
Do you use dry shampoo? What’s your favourite brand?
Unrelated side note: My boyfriend took the photos of me for this post and can I just say how much easier it is to have a photographer? One shot and I was totally in frame, in focus, looking at the camera…
