The Original Tangle Teezer

The Original Tangle Teezer 4Some back story: I have fairly long, curly, dry hair, which basically means it perfect for tangles and hairbrushes are something I’ve always spent a decent amount of money on. In the past, I’ve had some really painful experiences trying to get a brush through my hair, so I’m always skeptical of a newcomer. Even if that newcomer, like The Original Tangle Teezer* has actually been around since 2007.

The Original Tangle Teezer 3Originally sold in the UK, The Original Tangle Teezer has just launched at Urban Outfitters in five different colours, and of course, I have the boring one, the classic Panther Black. The brush retails for $16, which isn’t nothing, but honestly is way less than I spent on my last brush. It is made completely of plastic, with short comb prongs of two different lengths.

The Original Tangle Teezer 2I did find it took awhile to get used to holding The Original Tangle Teezer, which as you can tell, has no handle. It does fit well in my hand, but it is definitely a different experience from a regular brush. I think the lack of handle is part of the magic, because by holding your hand close to your head, you aren’t jerking and pulling and breaking hair in the same way. I have to admit I don’t find it quite as satisfying (is that a thing?) to brush my hair with The Original Tangle Teezer, but I think it might actually be doing a better job. The only other thing to note is that I still like a brush with a handle to use while I’m blow-drying my hair–I am not sure how the plastic would stand up, but on first try my hand got too hot because of how close it was to the blowdryer.

The Original Tangle TeezerAs a curly-haired person I suffer from the “only brush my hair before I wash it” dilemma, or face horrible frizz. I have swapped out my regular brush for The Original Tangle Teezer over the last two weeks, and I am really happy with the results. I also find my hair is breaking less, and I don’t lose as much or have to spend as long brushing it out. Have you tried The Original Tangle Teezer yet?
