Stila Got Inked Cushion Eye Liner in Smokey Quartz Ink Swatches + Review

Stila Got Inked Cushion Eye Liner in Smokey Quartz Ink Swatches 2As I’ve shared a quite a few times on Writing Whimsy, I am generally not an eyeliner person. Still, every once in awhile a new eyeliner catches my attention, and lately that’s been the innovative Fall 2015 launch from Stila. It’s available in 6 shades, but I have the Stila Got Inked Cushion Eye Liner in Smokey Quartz Ink*. Stila Got Inked Cushion Eye Liner in Smokey Quartz Ink Swatches 4The Stila Got Inked Cushion Eye Liner in Smokey Quartz Ink is a unique twist on liquid liner because the liner is actually stored in a cushion sponge soaked in product. I think this is kinda like those foundations, although I haven’t actually tried any. The idea is to use it with the matching brush–Stila La Quill Precision Eye Liner Brush–and simply draw your eyeliner on like calligraphy. I do wish the brush and liner came packaged together, because I think you’d probably have the best results that way and I only tried the liner.

Stila Got Inked Cushion Eye Liner in Smokey Quartz Ink SwatchesThe Stila Got Inked Cushion Eye Liner in Smokey Quartz Ink comes in a small frosted pot which allows you to see the colour from the side and has a gold lid. I absolutely adore the Smokey Quartz shade, but have had a miserable time trying to describe it… help? It has a golden shimmer in it that is gorgeous on any eye colour but I think especially flattering on brown eyes.

I applied the Stila Got Inked Cushion Eye Liner in Smokey Quartz Ink using an angled liner brush, and I did have to go into the pot quite a few times because I felt like I wasn’t getting enough liner on the end of the brush, where it needs to be to apply it. That’s why I feel like using the La Quill Precision Eye Liner Brush might be helpful.

Stila Got Inked Cushion Eye Liner in Smokey Quartz Ink Swatches 5Although Stila Got Inked Cushion Eye Liner in Smokey Quartz Ink wasn’t opaque in a single stroke it was easy to build up, I just sorta kept dabbing it on, and I think I will get more comfortable applying it over time. I do think it would be difficult to do a wing with this sort of formula, but I think it would be difficult to do a wing with anything. Honestly, it may be a lot easier if you are used to using gel liners, but I’m not.

Once the Stila Got Inked Cushion Eye Liner in Smokey Quartz Ink was applied, it stayed put and did not smudge at all day! However, it is not waterproof so it was super easy to remove when I wanted to. To me, that’s the perfect balance. If you want to see what this liner looks like on a full face shot, make sure to check out my Smashbox + Flare + Donald Robertson Be Legendary Lipstick in Canadian Flare review before I’m wearing it there.

Stila Got Inked Cushion Eye Liner in Smokey Quartz Ink Swatches 3I don’t use a lot of eyeliner, but I love the Stila Got Inked Cushion Eye Liner in Smokey Quartz Ink so much it’s definitely one I would reach for. It is a bit finicky to apply, but once it is applied it looks gorgeous. I don’t even feel like I need to pair it with any other eye makeup, I love how it looks with just mascara.

What do you think of the Stila Got Inked Cushion Eye Liner? Would you try a product like this?
