In addition to the Simple Cleansing Facial Wipes I reviewed recently, I tested out two more products from the brand. I used the Simple Refreshing Facial Wash Gel* and Simple Soothing Facial Toner*, in addition to a moisturizer from another brand, to complete my skincare routine.
Both the Simple Refreshing Facial Wash Gel and Simple Soothing Facial Toner have no noticeable scent to me, and that’s been true of all the Simple products I’ve tried so far. The brand describes itself as “Sensitive Skin Experts” and I know not adding perfume, dyes, or fragrance to their skincare is part of that.
Despite not having a scent, the Simple Refreshing Facial Wash Gel definitely wakes me up when I use it. This is definitely a morning face wash, and the fact that it’s described as a gel makes sense not only because of the consistency of the product, but also because it is best suited for oily skin. It doesn’t contain soap and the packaging says “non-drying” but unfortunately for me this was not the case. Using it is really refreshing and wakes me up, but I do find that it leaves my skin quite tight and I was surprised at that given that Simple is a brand that I generally think of as being very gentle on your skin. If you have oilier skin (mine is more combination) than the Simple Refreshing Facial Wash Gel may work better for you, especially during the summer months when I imagine it would feel really nice in the morning, although definitely still follow with a moisturizer.
In contrast to the Simple Refreshing Facial Wash Gel, the Simple Soothing Facial Toner was a big hit with me. The other toner I had been using contained loads of alcohol and was really harsh on my skin (I still have a ton to use up sadly), whereas this one is 100% alcohol free. I could immediately notice a difference, as this is much gentler on the skin while still being effective. When I used this on its own (without the drying face wash) I did not have a problem. It includes ingredients like witch hazel and chamomile and allantoin which help to soften skin, and I definitely think the the Simple Soothing Facial Toner lives up to its soothing claims.
Ultimately, there was one hit and one slight miss when it came to the Simple Refreshing Facial Wash Gel and Simple Soothing Facial Toner. Although the face wash was effective and may work well with oily skin, I am still looking for something a little less drying for myself. However, I adored how gentle and soothing the toner was, and it is definitely one I would repurchase after I finish up the few I already own. In addition to these products, Simple has a Moisturizing Facial Wash, Foaming Cleanser and Smoothing Facial Scrub, all of which I am very interested in trying!
