Sally Hansen Jungle Gem*, like Mermaid’s Tale (which I reviewed here) is from their Complete Salon Manicure line, which is basically supposed to be your base, polish and top coat all in one easy stroke. I’m paranoid about nail staining and this is a pretty dark colour, so I still recommend a base coat, but I generally find these polishes really sturdy and unless you want some more shine a top coat probably isn’t necessary.
This particular shade, Sally Hansen Jungle Gem, is really gorgeous and perfect for fall. I do apologize in advance for the photos, for some reason I had a horrible time that day getting good ones and given that the polish was already a couple days old by then, I didn’t want to wait any longer to photograph it. The fact that it’s basically chip-free after several days of wear does show exactly how sturdy it is though!
These polishes retail around $8, which seems like a lot when I’m used to the bargain rices of Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear and Instadry, but they do go on sale for less and I definitely find this line more durable, plus sometimes you just want a specific colour like the very dark green-based teal of Sally Hansen Jungle Gem.
Sally Hansen Jungle Gem is so opaque and creamy, so incredibly pigmented, that you can probably get away with one thick coat. However, I’m wearing two in these photos because of a bit of patchiness I had. You also have to be careful because I did have a tiny bit of flooding in my cuticles, but nothing I couldn’t easily clean up.
Overall, Sally Hansen Jungle Gem is super glossy and doesn’t need a top coat except for if you want to prolong wear. I think it’s a gorgeous colour for fall and might also look really pretty with a gold accent of some kind–– I’ll have to test it out next time I wear it!
