Revlon has released some amazing lip products over the years including their Lacquer Balm and Matte Balms so when I learn about a new lip release from the brand, I am definitely interested. The Revlon Ultra HD Lipcolor is their take on the matte liquid lipstick and I tried out the shades Obsession*, Seduction* and Passion*.
The Revlon Ultra HD Matte Lipcolor comes a slightly futuristic frosted tube with a silver lid and a doefoot applicator. The product is a totally wax-free gel and is available in a range of 8 shades. The first thing I notice when opening the tube is a very, very strong scent. It’s described as vanilla and mango, but whatever it is I find it much too powerful for me and I am rarely bothered by scent.
The Revlon Ultra HD Matte Lipcolor in Obsession is a bright fuchsia pink. It has nearly opaque pigmentation which is pretty even but does take time to apply carefully in order to achieve that.
Now that I’ve swatched this lipstick you may notice something…it’s not matte. I waited and waited for these to become matte, but they definitely have a shine to them. Because they never dry down, they also smudge really easily, so you’ll want to check the mirror regularly throughout the day.
The Revlon Ultra HD Matte Lipcolor in Seduction is a nude beige with semi-opaque coverage. This was by far my favourite of the three simply because it was the least high maintenance in term of smudging/evenness . It’s also a really pretty shade and I would definitely get more use out of it if the scent wasn’t so distracting. The lipcolors feel slightly velvety but not drying on the lips.

Finally, the Revlon Ultra HD Matte Lipcolor in Passion is a bright true red. I was actually surprised looking at the photos of this shade because I managed to get it to look pretty nice, but it was very difficult to work with. This shade applies unevenly and streaky, which you can tell better in the close up lip swatch, so I really had to apply a lot and that made it even more prone to moving around.
I can get a few hours of wear out of the Revlon Ultra HD Matte Lipcolors but as I said, I wouldn’t go that long without looking in a mirror for the brighter shades. The brighter shades also leave behind a stain.
While I had high hopes for the Revlon Ultra HD Matte Lipcolor these pigmented glosses are unfortunately both too highly scented and a little to high maintenance for me. While I can see myself reaching for the Revlon Ultra HD Matte Lipcolor in Seduction, both Obsession and Passion look gorgeous but require a bit too much work for me.
Have you tried the Revlon Ultra HD Matte Lipcolor yet? I have seen a lot of rave reviews of this product as well, so definitely worth further Googling if it interests you!
