I received a (belated) Valentine’s Day gift from Revlon (shared on my Instagram) filled with neutral makeup including their nail polish, Elegant, which I reviewed here as well as two lip and two cheek products. Not only do I adore lip products, but probably my favourite format is the lip crayon, so I was very excited to test out two new products, Revlon Lacquer Balm in Ingenue* and Matte Balm in Complex*.
Revlon Lacquer Balm in Ingenue didn’t look too promising in the tube. I mean this packaging is gorgeous, I love the high shine of the lacquer balms and the matching matte packaging for those shades, and I love that the packaging matches the shade inside. Basically, full marks for Revlon. But I honestly thought Ingenue was going to be quite brown and not at all flattering. I was wrong! It was a hydrating formula which leaves a glossy, peachy-brown tint on the lips that I love. It is neutral and gorgeous. Because of the shiny finish it is not very long lasting, a couple hours tops, but it is also very easy to reapply as it doesn’t even require a mirror. Like all the Revlon Balm Stains, it has a minty scent, and if I still had it to photograph it would be included in my March favourites. Unfortunately my mom fell in love with it too so I gave it to her when I was visiting last week!
I had actually purchased a matte balm from Revlon before in the shade Sultry, which I adore, but unfortunately I didn’t have quite as much success with the Revlon Matte Balm in Complex. This is really a true nude shade, and even in the best case scenario I’m unlikely to falling love with one of those. However, this shade was very difficult to get opaque as you have to layer it quite a few times, and the end result is quite patchy looking. The matte balm stains are an awesome easy-to-wear matte formula because they are very creamy and not at all drying. Because of that, they also aren’t smudge-proof the way some drier matte formulas can be, and don’t last as long, but they are so so much more comfortable to wear. Unfortunately for Revlon Matte Balm in Complex it clung to dry patches on my lips and was uneven so it was not at all flattering, but in general this line is fantastic and I am going to try layering Complex with another shade and see how that goes instead.
I am so excited about the Revlon Lacquer and Matte Balms. Although this particular shade wasn’t success for me, I am really excited by the matte line because it is so much more unusual– and I highly recommend checking out the shade Sultry as it is gorgeous! Revlon Lacquer Balm in Ingenue is a gorgeous wearable shade and I am definitely interested in other ones in the line, or even owning another Ingenue since my mom has mine now.
Have you tried any of the new Revlon lip crayons?
