Here’s a post I haven’t done in ages on Writing Whimsy, one specifically dedicated to a particular makeup look. However, I was recently sent a lovely assortment of products including the Charlotte Tilbury The Rebel Eyeshadow Quad*, THEFACESHOP single blush OR01*, essence longlasting lipstick in wear berries!*, as well as the essence lash princess mascara* that I thought I would put together for what I’ve decided to call a Rebellious Valentine’s Day Makeup Look.
This is a Rebellious Valentine’s Day Makeup Look because a) I am using The Rebel Eyeshadow Quad and b) you can be rebellious and not use it as a Valentine’s Day look at all. I’m most comfortable with a fairly neutral look, so if I’m going out for a special occasion I like to stick with something that brings out some of my favourite features (like my eyes) while still adding a hint of glamour with a brighter-than-usual lip.
I started off my Rebellious Valentine’s Day Makeup Look with the Diorskin Forever & Ever Wear Primer Base* and Dior Diorskin Forever Perfect Makeup Fluid Foundation in 010 Ivory* which I applied using the Dior Backstage Blender* for a flawless finish. Using a primer as well as a medium coverage foundation helps evens out my redness and last all day (or night!)
Since this look is all about the eyes and lips, I used the THEFACESHOP single blush OR01, which is a pale peachy matte blush with a smooth consistency that’s quite subtle but buildable.
This Rebellious Valentine’s Day Makeup Look has a strong focus on the eyes and I really love the Charlotte Tilbury The Rebel Eyeshadow Quad, which is mix of green shades and sparkle that’s very flattering on brown and hazel eyes in particular. Honestly, I always recommend an eyeshadow primer but since I was testing out these shadows I didn’t use one and they lasted all day which was amazing. Full review with swatches to come.
For my Rebellious Valentine’s Day Makeup Look I used the upper left Prime shade as an inner corner highlight. I then applied the upper right Enhance green all over the lid, and used the dark green Smoke shade in the crease. Finally I gently patted the glitter Pop from the bottom left all over the lid for an added sparkle. As a last step, I used two generous coats of the essence lash princess false lash effect mascara.
I love lip products and essence makes some really incredible options for super affordable prices (including one of my favourite nude lipsticks). For this look, I’m wearing the essence longlasting lipstick in wear berries! which is a creamy, comfortable pink with a slight berry lean to it. It definitely looks pinker on my lips than I expected, but that feels quite festive for the holiday.
I actually also used the highlight Prime shade from Charlotte Tilbury The Rebel Eyeshadow Quad on my cheeks, for a peachy glow. The final product I’m wearing for my Rebellious Valentine’s Day Makeup Look is the Smashbox Brow Tech Shaping Powder in Dark Brown* which gives a softer finish to the brows that I really like.
I think it’s a lot of fun to mix and match high end and drugstore products and while it’s amazing to splurge on a gorgeous product from Charlotte Tilbury, you can also find great picks from essence for under $5. Together they make a PERFECT MATCH. (Get it…?) While I’m not celebrating Valentine’s Day, I am actually going to a party the night before to celebrate my dad’s birthday and this is exactly the kind of look I would wear there.
What do you think of this Rebellious Valentine’s Day Makeup Look? Do you want to see more makeup looks on Writing Whimsy? I never feel like I’m creative enough for them but I did have fun doing this post!
