One of my favourite polishes ever is from Quo by ORLY (it’s called Turquoise Moonlight and you can see my very old swatches of it here) so I am always interested in trying out other polishes from the brand. Today I have three bright and shimmery shades from the Quo by ORLY Summer 2014 Collection, which are Overboard*, Heatwave* and Simmered*.
Let’s start by getting this one out of the way. I just knew the second I got the bottle that there was no way that Quo by ORLY Overboard was going to work for me. I mean, neon, sheer, and bar glitter. I also swatched it on my ring finger over Essie Blanc, so you can really see how bright and neon the shade is (although that’s always hard to capture on camera) as well as what it might look like without VNL. I went with one coat over white, or three coats on all my other nails. With one coat it is very sheer with a tint and mainly just sparkle when you don’t layer it over a base, but in three coats it does build up to a bright glitter-filled jelly. This is definitely a summery shade, and whether it works for you or not really depends on how you feel about neon, sheer polishes and bar glitter. My feelings are pretty clear.
Nothing says summer to me like a neon orange-coral shade, and if you add in some gold shimmer, consider me sold. I love how bright and shocking Quo by ORLY Heatwave is, even brighter than my camera could really capture properly. With two coats there’s still some visible nail line (VNL) but it’s so bright and shiny–no neon rubber finish although it’s not super glossy– that I find it’s not noticeable unless you’re looking. This shade reminds me of fire. I think the fact that it’s not just straight orange makes me love it so much, the coral aspect of it makes it somehow more wearable and pretty, especially with the gold shimmer.
Of course I saved the purple for last like I always do, and the one in the Quo by ORLY Summer 2014 Collection is gorgeous! Quo by ORLY Simmered is a magenta-tone bright purple with a similar gold shimmer running through it to Heatwave although I find it more obvious in this shade because it’s less neon. It’s still really bright though, and again there’s a bit of VNL with two coats but I don’t find it that noticeable. The end result is shimmery and summery and just vibrant and really pretty. An easy favourite from the Quo by ORLY Summer 2014 Collection, but then, I always go for the purples don’t I?
What do you think of the Quo by ORLY Summer 2014 Collection polishes? There are three other shades including a gorgeous dark purple called Infused. I can’t wait to see what Quo does for fall! No bar glitter please…
