I’ve started off my Quo Holiday 2015 reviews with the Quo Eye Focus set featuring cream and powder shadows, then continued on by swatching the gorgeous, well-curated Quo by Orly Perfectly Painter 12-Piece Mini Nail Lacquer Set, and today I’m back with three final products: Quo Lips All Around*, Quo Contouring Craze* and Quo Back to Basics New Nudes Eyeshadow Palette*.
The Quo Lips All Around Set is very similar to the Quo Love Lip Set I reviewed last year except this time you get two extra glosses. There are 8 baby lip glosses in cream and shimmer finishes that could also be split up as stocking stuffers.
The glosses in the Quo Lips All Around Set are semi-sheer and range from nude to plum. They have a light vanilla scent, but no flavour. I also really love the applicator, which is a doefoot with a little “pocket” to hold gloss and which curves comfortably to my lips. The glosses are really shiny and not at all sticky on the lips, so they last about an hour two and are easy to reapply. Honestly, I’m not a big lip gloss wearer, but I really enjoy these ones.
If you’re looking for a gift for somebody (or yourself) who is a little bit more advanced in the makeup department than lip gloss, you’ll want to check out the Quo Contouring Craze Deluxe Contour Kit. This set includes a palette with a contour (matte), highlight (matte) and bronzer (very subtle shimmer–not noticeable when applied) as well as two brushes.
The Quo Contouring Craze Palette has an elaborate gold design on it that’s actually printed on the plastic–which makes it stand out a bit from the other, pink cardboard products in the Quo Holiday 2015 Collection, but I definitely prefer it. The powders insides are all very lightly pigmented, which is actually a good idea if you are new to contouring–it’s very easy to go overboard otherwise. I had to build them up quite a bit for the swatches. This is definitely a kit for people with fair skin. While the contour and bronzer shades are pretty smooth, I found the highlight shade chalky which you can actually tell if you look closely at the swatch.
The brushes in the Quo Contouring Craze Deluxe Contour Kit are travel-sized, with shorter handles. The rounded and angled brushes well for highlight and contour, but I’d use a larger one for bronzer. The bristles are also very soft.
The final product I tried out from the Quo Holiday 2015 Collection was the Quo Back to Basics New Nudes Eyeshadow Palette, and I had mixed feelings about it. The shadows are housed in the same pink cardboard as the Quo Eye Focus set with a small mirror on the lid, and a brush inside.
The palette includes 6 warm shades (top swatches) followed by 6 cooler shades (bottom swatches). Although there are some lovely shades included–I mean, check out that stunning burgundy–there were also quite a few that are chalky and hard to pick up. The worst offender was definitely the black. I also find the palette quite heavy on the light shades, without much to transition between that and the three dark ones. Considering how light the pigment is on the three lightest shades, they could really be replaced with one.
I was definitely disappointed by the Quo Back to Basics New Nudes Eyeshadow Palette because I found the shadows in the Quo Eye Focus set so great. However, In addition to the burgundy, I really like the shimmery brown (top swatch, far right) and pale pink champagne shimmer (second from left on top). This palette is usable with primer, and might be a good pick if you prefer slightly more sheer, natural makeup looks, but I just know Quo is capable of better. I actually really like the brush inside though!
Just over a week left till Christmas but it’s not too late to pick up the Quo Holiday 2015 Collection. My personal picks are the Quo Lips All Around Set I reviewed here, as well as the Quo by Orly Perfectly Painter 12-Piece Mini Nail Lacquer Set. Both sets offer mini products so you get a fantastic product in many different shade options and adorable packaging..and isn’t that what holiday gift sets are about?
