Today I have reviews (and a makeup look, of course) featuring three products from a new-to-me brand. I mean, I had heard of them before, but never actually tried any of their makeup. But clearly, that has all changed. Or this would be a wishlist instead of a review… The brand is PurMinerals, and I tried out the PurMinerals Chateau Cheeks Pressed Powder Blush in Kinky*, PurMinerals Big Look Mascara* and the PurMinerals Chateau de Vine Lipstick in Starlet*.
When I first saw and felt the PurMinerals packaging, I was a little unsure. The price tag on these products is between $20 and $25, and they don’t feel or look that expensive to me. But aren’t we always supposed to judge things based on what’s inside? And what is inside all three of these items is actually quite lovely.
The PurMinerals Chateau Cheeks Pressed Powder Blush actually contains ingredients that should be good for the skin like argan oil, as well as resveratrol, which according to the brand helps soften the look of lines and extend cellular lifespan. It’s available in four shades including Kinky, a pink with a gold sheen to it. The PurMinerals Chateau Cheeks Pressed Powder Blush in Kinky has an incredibly soft, smooth formula that almost feels a little cream-like even though it’s a powder. As a result, it does kick up powder when I apply it with my brush, but the effect on my face is natural but buildable. There’s an instant bit of a glow built in, but the golden shine isn’t overwhelming or glittery. I was also really impressed by the wear, as you could still see it clearly after 8 hours, whereas usually most blushes have completely melted off me by then.
PurMinerals as a brand seems to really care about the ingredients of their products and the PurMinerals Big Look Mascara contains no parabens, phthalates, or gluten (is anyone allergic to gluten on their eyelashes?). There’s also argan oil to help nourish the lashes. The brush is one with short rubber bristles and those are honestly my favourites so I wasn’t surprised when I loved the end result.
I had no issues applying PurMinerals Big Look Mascara, even on the inner corner of my eyes, and I think it did fantastic job especially with lengthening. It can lean a little clumpy if you’re not careful, but the real unfortunate thing was that I found the mascara flakes on me. I’m definitely still wearing it at the end of the day, but there are little black flecks that came off. It’s not awful to the point that it’s a deal-breaker, but it is disappointing considering how promising the mascara was when I first applied it.
The final makeup product I tried out was the PurMinerals Chateau de Vine Lipstick, which like the brush takes wine-inspired ingredients to help condition and smooth lips. There are ten shades, and ingredients include shea butter and vitamin E. I tried out the shade Starlet, which is a perfect name considering what a bright, Hollywood red it is. The lipstick is the case where I felt the packaging lacked the most, as I find it looks cheap and there’s no weight to the tube at all.
The PurMinerals Chateau de Vine Lipstick in Starlet has an incredibly glossy finish and actually feels like applying a really nice lip balm. As a result, I feel like it’s very flattering on the lips, and even in their rough winter state, it made mine look smoother, and even a bit larger, than they are. It lasts a few hours and does leave behind a reddish stain, but unfortunately because of the slip it has I find it fades from the inside out, which isn’t a good look. It feels so nice on the lips though I wouldn’t mind touching up throughout the day.
In the above shot I’m wearing the PurMinerals Chateau Cheeks Pressed Powder Blush, Big Look Mascara and Chateau de Vine Lipstick. Look how nice my lips look! Also sorry about not filling in my brows, sometimes I can be so lazy.
Although I think there is room for improvement on the PurMinerals packaging, the content inside is definitely up to par. What the PurMinerals Chateau Cheeks Pressed Powder Blush, Big Look Mascara and Chateau de Vine Lipstick all have in common is the fact that they both look and feel good. If I had a more neutral shade of the lipstick I know I would get a lot of use out of it!
Have you tried anything from PurMinerals before? Am I a total packaging snob?
