As much as I love neutrals for lips and eyes, I actually tend to stick to bright shades for my nails. However, there are some situations (and some people!) that the OPI Soft Shades 2015 Collection* would be perfect for, including all those upcoming weddings. The collection includes 6 different romantic polishes, and there are even two glitter toppers. I have swatches of all of them to share.
OPI Act Your Beige! is a soft sheer beige, and although I went with 3 coats to help disguise the rough shape my nails are in, I actually think it looks nicest with just one. As I built it up it tended to get a bit uneven.
OPI Chiffon My Mind is a shimmery white with a blue/purple lean to it, which really reminds me of snow in person, though the effect is difficult to capture. It is still a bit sheer with 3 coats, but I think it would make a fantastic pedicure shade because it’s white with something extra special to it.
I applied one coat of OPI Make Light of the Situation on top of Chiffon My Mind. If the first polish is snow, this one is definitely snowflakes, and it is a stunning iridescent glitter. It gives great coverage with one coat as a glitter topper, and I bet it would also be gorgeous (though less subtle!) on top of a dark shade–I’m thinking navy.
The other glitter in the OPI Soft Shades 2015 Collection is OPI Petal Soft, which is pretty much spring in a nail polish. The polish contains a fun mix of white and pale pink glitter in a clear base, with the standout being the large white flowers. Although I am technically wearing one coat of this polish on top of Put It In Neutral, I definitely had to do some dabbing for the flowers, which also stick out a bit, making this a finicky polish to use.
If you’re looking for a pinky sheer nude instead of one that leans beige/peach like Act Your Beige!, there’s OPI Put it in Neutral. It is very sheer even with two coats, which is what I’m wearing, but I do think it gives my nails that healthy look without being streaky. I don’t generally reach for French manicure-esque shades, but if you do, this is a pretty option.
The final shade in the OPI Soft Shades 2015 Collection is OPI This Silver’s Mine! which is a light frosty silver. I used two coats, but honestly it could have used three as it is still a bit sheer. More than that, the brush strokes are very obvious which is probably my biggest pet peeve in polishes, so I was disappointed.
If you are looking for a subtle, neutral polish for Spring and Summer, the OPI Soft Shades 2015 Collection is definitely work checking out. Even if you are more of a brights and glitter lover like me, OPI Make Light of the Situation is absolutely my favourite and worth checking out. Plus, there’s the OPI Brights with 9 shocking shades coming soon…
When it comes to polish, to go for the subtle or the shocking shades?
