Sheer Tints is one of the unique OPI collections that caught my interest lately and I was lucky to be sent two shades to try out, OPI Sheer Tints Top Coat I’m Never Amberrassed* & OPI Be Magentale with Me*. These are sheer polishes that can be worn on their own, or on top of other polishes to tint them. They can also be used for some pretty neat nail art, like a stained glass effect I’ve seen done on a few blogs.
The first shade I tried out, OPI Sheer Tints Top Coat I’m Never Amberrassed, was actually the one out of the four in the collection I really wasn’t very interested in. I mean, it’s basically a sheer yellow polish, which is exactly what I want to avoid my nails looking like. However, it is fun for some nail art (I even tried some out later on in this post!) It’s a thicker formula, which is unsurprising given that these are top coats, but it still dries quite fast. I went with two coats, and while it’s definitely sheer, it’s also quite obvious what colour it is.
The other shade I tried out was the pink, OPI Sheer Tints Top Coat Be Magentale with Me–I just love the OPI puns. It was even more sheer than the yellow shade despite also using two coats, but it had the same thick formula. I would honestly never wear either of these polishes on their own just like this, but I wanted to be accurate for swatching. However, I think you can do some really cool things with them, and one idea is to layer them into a gradient, which is what I did below.
For this final look I used two coats of OPI Sheer Tints Top Coat I’m Never Amberrassed as my base, and then Be Magentale with Me at the tips using 1-3 coats . I should have stuck with 1-2 as by the end it got a bit too thick as you can tell, but overall I was quite happy with the look. Even though this look is just as sheer, the gradient gives it something special I would be willing to wear on its own. Add in the blue and purple shades and there’s potential for lots of pretty rainbow looks! It could be layered over white if you don’t want your nail to show through.
As somebody who is not a fan of sheer nail polish, I was initially pretty skeptical of the OPI Sheer Tints Top Coat, but they are actually really fun for unique nail looks, and I’m interested in trying more with them in the future.
Have you tried these polishes before? What do you think of my FIRST EVER GRADIENT?
