October 2014 Empties

October 2014 Empties 7I’ve really been making an effort to use up items in my stash, and it shows! I have a TON of October 2014 Empties, so I’ll just get started on them.

I’d been using the Philosophy The Micro Exfoliating Triple-Acid Brightening Peel* for a couple months with no results when I reviewed them, but whenever I remembered I did give them another shot and yeah, definitely not paying $100 to buy these. The Dial Deep Cleansing Moisturizing Hand Soap in Coconut Lime Verbena* on the other hand, I would rebuy (and have bought many soaps from the brand before).

I realized I had quite a few Lush products coming up on their one-year anniversary which means expiration, so I’ve really been focusing on those and managed to finish up two showergels this month. Secret: I pretty much put them in my hand soap dispenser, because neither was super special as a shower gel (although I preferred Lush The Olive Branch* to Lush Ponche* which smelled too much like tequila for me).

I also finished up my final Julep Pink Grapefruit Body Scrub which smelled nice but left an unpleasant oily residue, as well as another one of my bath oil minis in the Aromatherapy Associates De-Stress Mind, which are incredibly lovely and incredibly expensive–I got my a set of a bunch of them on a discounted Boxing Day price when I was in London last year.

October 2014 Empties 5I also worked through a few hair products I had been working on for months, including the KQC Thermal Shine* which is a heat-protectant, but I have another one from a different brand that will take me forever to finish. I had the L’Oreal Total Repair Replenishing Detangling Care for a long time (It appeared in one of my first hauls on this blog!) but I’m actually a bit sad to see it go, because it really does a nice job. I am less sad over the final hair product in my October 2014 Empties, which is the John Frieda Brilliant Brunette Shine Shock Leave-On Perfecting Glosser which I didn’t find did much except leave my hair crunchy if I applied too much and took forever to finish despite seeming like a small tube.

I used up an old and unremarkable bath bomb I won in a giveaway, which was the ZEN-ful Bath and Body Bath Bomb in Rose, that looked like it had rose petals in it but actually only had one… I also finished my final package of Lush Gold FUN— I cannot see myself picking up any more FUN this year, it’s just not that much FUN for me though the scent of this one was great. Also in my quest to not let Lush things expire, I finished up the Lush Close to You Massage Bar*, but I much prefer the harder bars from the brand. I also used up the Lush Snowcake Soap* which is amazing, super creamy and I love the smell, but luckily I have a back up because I bought way too much Lush last Boxing Day (is that even possible?)

I also used up a small Lush Gorgeous Facial Moisturizer that came as a part of a gift set I bought, and I don’t know if it’s because it’s old but it was making me break out. Then I switched to using it on my neck and chest, same result. I ended up using it on my body just to finish it. I don’t know if it’s the product in general or the one I had, but since it’s quite expensive and I have lots of facial lotion that works, I won’t be trying to find out.

October 2014 EmptiesI had a stash of wipes I decided to work through, starting with the Almay Oil-Free Makeup Removing Toilettes* which I did not like. I also finished up a backage of the ELF Makeup Remover Cleansing Cloths, which are decent both nothing super special, and the OXY Emergency Acne Vanishing Treatment Wipes which possibly helped although it is a strange format for such a product (I won them in a giveaway). I also had another LA Fresh Travel-lite Antiperspirant for Women Wipe so I used that up as well… could be handy to keep in a gym bag, but it seems like a lot of packaging.

October 2014 Empties 4Makeup-ish wise is where my October 2014 Empties really shine. There’s two packages of Halloween nail stickers, Sally Hansen Salon Effects in Little Black Lace* and Hallowscene* , along with a set of ImPRESS Nails in Dazzle Me* that I wore on actual Halloween (see them here). I also finished up my cuticle oil, which was a Witchcraft Almond Oil from a mini trio giftset I got last year for Christmas.

I tossed a pretty much dried out, really old mascara which was Maybelline The Falsies, which I actually like and find quite dramatic but I have so much mascara I need to toss more next month for sure and never buy another one. I also finished TWO face products, which is insane, although a tiny bit of them did end up dumped out into another product I hope to have in next month’s empties. There’s the Smashbox Camera Ready BB Cream, which I love and already have a replacement for, and the ELF Tinted Moisturizer which I was dumb and got two of and I am so glad they are both gone now because it leaves my skin kinda oily and isn’t very nice.

October 2014 Empties 3I’m including a few things I’m tossing unfinished in my October 2014 Empties, but they don’t count in my final tally, I just thought I’d share. There’s the Covergirl TRUBlend MicroMinerals Foundation that I was supposed to finish up for a challenge but honestly I hate it and when a bunch spilled I was happy and that’s when I realized, I own too much makeup to bother working through anymore of this product.

I also have a few glittery black eyeshadows and this Sephora Pink Glam’s Black one is really old and hard and scratchy, so it’s being tossed, as is the Witchcraft Rapid Dry Top Coat that came with the almond oil, but messed up my nails by not drying properly every time I tried it.

October 2014 Empties 2I had two candles that were getting near the bottom so I finished up them both as my candle stash is a little larger than necessary. Both are from Bath and Body Works, and they are both ones I’d repurchase if they were available and a really good price (because I am cheap when it comes to candles). Mango Beachwood is definitely more of a summery scent but I do love anything mango, while Leaves is a fall favourite.

October 2014 EmptiesMy tea stash is ridiculous, and I knew I’d want to order the winter flavours from DAVIDsTEA so I did my best to finish up a few of the ones I have, as you can tell from my October 2014 Empties. First is a tea I brought back from London, Twinings Cranberry & Blood Orange, which I’ve never seen here but it was really good! I brought it to work and a few definitely disappeared (other people in my lab are always welcome to my tea). I also used up my entire package of Kiss Me Organics Matcha Green Tea Powder* entirely in smoothies.

There was a DAVIDsTEA Forever Nuts sample from last year’s advent calender (always yummy) as well as DAVIDsTEA Alpine Punch and DAVIDsTEA Root Beer Float, both of which I enjoyed but neither I’m rushing to repurchase (they are limited edition anyway). Finally, I finished drinking my Steeped Tea Cocoa Bean Chai* which is surprisingly a herbal tea with chai flavours and was quite good.

Total Empties Count? 33. Nevermind that includes tea and candles, I’m happy!

What did you finish this month?
