NEWS: Sephora Canada Charges Duty When Ordering Online

Just a quick post for anyone who missed it on my Facebook page (which you can follow here for updates!) but Sephora Canada, as the title of this post says, now seems to be charging duty when you order online. Previously Sephora Canada had much higher prices than the US site, and also charged taxes etc. However when you go to check out now, there is an additional line for “duty”:

Sephora’s explanation?

(this response was shared with me, thanks!)

Personally, I think Sephora is already way overcharging its Canadian customers. For example, the same Illamasqua cream pigment is $26 from the Bay, or $32 from Sephora online (PLUS duty). Couldn’t some of that extra cash Sephora is pocketing cover duty instead?

The points system is already way better at Shoppers Drug Mart / Murale, where you get actual full-size, free products when you cash them in rather than small samples. So basically, asides from being the only source Canadians have for certain brands not really what reason there is to shop (or order online) from Sephora!

Do you order online from Sephora? Let me know what you think of this news!
