When it comes to drugstore brands, I am always really excited to see what is coming out from Maybelline. Mainly, I am hoping for more Color Tattoos…but since there aren’t any of those yet–in Canada, at least, I have three other recent launches to share instead, for the lips and eyes. As far as I know, all three product lines are permanent editions to the Maybelline line up.
As you might guess, I didn’t pick out these shades, so there are definitely a couple lip colours outside my comfort zone–and a bonus neutral eyeshadow duo. However, I was able to test out the Maybelline Color Sensational Creamy Mattes Lipstick in Craving Coral*, the Color Sensational Rebel Bloom Lipstick in Hibiscus Pop*, and the Eye Studio Color Molten Cream Eyeshadow in Endless Mocha*.
I have only heard positive things about the new Maybelline Color Sensational Creamy Mattes, and I definitely have the shade Touch of Spice on my wishlist. I paid less attention to the brighter ones, but although I lost my nerve before wearing it outside the house, I was really pleased with the Maybelline Color Sensational Creamy Mattes Lipstick in Craving Coral. It’s a bright reddish orange, that is fairly opaque but still buildable, and I applied it in a few swipes to get the finish I preferred.
Despite being a matte lipstick there is not dry, difficult to apply, formula. Instead it is rather thick and creamy. It stays nicely on the lips, without being too drying, and leaves behind a stain after a few hours. I found the Maybelline Color Sensational Creamy Mattes Lipstick in Craving Coral never quite “dried” on my lips, so it wouldn’t last through a greasy meal. As with any matte, I’d recommend exfoliating your lips first for the smoothest finish, but I did not find that it emphasized any dry patches or lines on my lips. I got enough positive commentary when I shared a photo of me wearing Maybelline Color Sensational Creamy Mattes Lipstick in Craving Coral on instagram, so I will hold onto the shade and potentially someday leave the house with it. But that Touch of Spice is calling my name…
The most recent line of lipsticks from Maybelline is the Rebel Bloom Collection, which is perfect for spring. I shared the bubblegum shade of Maybelline Color Sensational Rebel Bloom in Hibiscus Pop in my Valentine’s Day Gift Guide, but as festive as the shade is, this one is definitely not flattering on me. The cool-toned pink clashes with my warm-toned skin, but there’s pretty much a pink for everyone in this collection–my eye is on Coral Burst, which looks stunning. Hibiscus Pop is semi-sheer, and not buildable like the Creamy Mattes.
I did find that Maybelline Color Sensational Rebel Bloom in Hibiscus Pop had a definite slip to it, which made it very comfortable to wear, but also in it almost pooling into fine lines on my lips. Wear was a couple hours at most. I did check out the Temptalia post on these lipsticks and Hibiscus Pop actually had the worst rating of all 10 shades, so if you are interested in this collection, it may be worth trying a different colour!
In addition to the new lip shades, I was pretty excited about anything resembling a cream eyeshadow launch from Maybelline (MORE COLOR TATTOOS PLEASE?). The Maybelline Eye Studio Color Molten Cream in Endless Mocha actually doesn’t have a regular cream consistency. It has an unusual texture, that is lightweight and almost bouncy–it reminds me a lot of the L’Oreal Visible Lift Color Lift Blush.
In terms of pigmentation, the Maybelline Eye Studio Color Molten Cream in Endless Mocha is fairly subtle with one swipe but can be built up with a couple layers. This duo has a shimmery caramel and a dark brown with copper sparkle in it. Th two shades in the duos are designed to work to create one eye look, although this lighter shade looks pretty all on its own as well. You definitely need to use your fingers to apply these shadows, and although they are creamy at first, they do set to a powder finish.
The most surprising thing for me was the wear–Maybelline Eye Studio Color Molten Cream in Endless Mocha still looked great after a whole day at work and into the evening before starting to crease and fade. I actually got complimented on my makeup after wearing it for 10 hours! I don’t know how they would fare with oilier eyes, but as for me…there are seven more shades and I want them all now.
In the above photos I’m wearing Maybelline Color Sensational Creamy Mattes in Craving Coral (of course) on my lips, with the Maybelline Eye Studio Color Molten Cream in Endless Mocha on my eyes. Applying with my fingers, I used the lighter shade all over the lid and dabbed the darker shade in the outer corner and crease. I’m also wearing a Josie Maran Argan Infinity Lip and Cheek Creamy Oil as blush, so this is a no-brush look! It was so easy and quick to do, and I actually love the end result, so I think this look will get a lot of wear from me in the future! With, you know, a more neutral lip shade…
There are plenty of new things showing up in the drugstore these days, but now you know my thoughts on three new from Maybelline launches. Although the product performance may vary by shade, I will definitely get the most use out of the Maybelline Eye Studio Color Molten Cream in Endless Mocha, while I was also really impressed by the creation of a comfortable, creamy matte with Maybelline Color Sensational Creamy Mattes in Craving Coral.
Have you tried any of new products from Maybelline? I have heard great things about their new Lash Sensational Mascara and Master Concealer so those definitely have my attention too.
