I’m going to be honest with you. Guys, I have way too many tubes of open mascara. But when the new formulation of the Dior Diorshow Mascara came my way, I was just forced to open three more to test out. I guess I’ll just have to start applying five coats at a time! That said, I might have a trillion mascaras, but that doesn’t mean I’m not still looking for ‘the one’. Is this it?
I tried out the new 2015 Dior Diorshow Mascara in Black*, Brown* and Purple*, but it also comes in Blue. I love that in addition to the traditional shades Dior threw in two fun options, and I actually really found that the Smashbox Photo Op Eye Brightening Mascara, which contains blue pigments, helped brighten my eyes, so there can definitely be a benefit to colourful mascaras besides just being awesome.
I can’t compare the new 2015 Dior Diorshow Mascara to the original, but it comes in a slightly larger than average tube with a much larger than average brush. Honestly, this thing is kinda giant! One thing I noticed right away about the mascaras is that there is a definite fragrance to them–I believe it is rose–which is honestly a bit strange for a mascara but doesn’t bother me once applied. However that’s something to keep in mind if you have really sensitive eyes.
The new 2015 Dior Diorshow Mascara in Black, Brown and Purple contain microfibers that cling between lashes to help thicken them without clumping, and for buildable volume. The unique packaging includes a patented “Air-Lock” wiper, that helps prevent air from reaching the mascara and stops it from drying it. To be honest, most of my mascaras have to be tossed before they dry out, but if you’re planning to stick with one mascara daily for 3 months, and spending the money on a high end one like Dior, I think that’s an awesome feature.
I started with the new 2015 Dior Diorshow Mascara in Black, which is predictably my standard choice for a mascara colour, although I will say this isn’t the blackest-black, it’s still more intense than the brown. The claims on this mascara are all about volume, not length, and I would say that’s quite accurate. It makes my lashes look a lot fuller, and gives them a slight curl, but only slightly lengthens. It is also not at all clumpy, because despite building volume it still keeps my lashes separate.
If you’re looking for a more natural option, there’s also the new 2015 Dior Diorshow Mascara in Brown. After using it for a couple weeks, I’m still a little conflicted over this giant brush. Although it is nice for volume, I have to be a bit careful when applying or I can end up with mascara where it doesn’t belong. In general, I tend to reach for skinny, rubber brushes, but this does a lovely job coating my lashes as long as I’m not rushing.
The final shade I tried out was the new 2015 Dior Diorshow Mascara in Purple. The purple is subtle but a great option for brown or green, I think it really makes my eye colour pop. The fact that the purple is darker means that this doesn’t have to be a specialty mascara, it’s one I’d feel comfortable wearing daily. In terms of wear, the mascara does last all day with with a very small amount of flaking (although I feel like all mascaras flake on me!) There was definitely less flaking than the Make Up For Ever Smoky Stretch Mascara, for example.
Overall, I think the new 2015 Dior Diorshow Mascaras did a great job volumizing my lashes without clumping, but it wasn’t quite The Mascara To End All Mascaras for me. The standout shade was definitely the new 2015 Dior Diorshow Mascara in Purple, which is a great wearable pick for brown and green eyes especially.
Have you ever tried a Dior mascara?
