I hadn’t heard of Paula’s Choice before I started reading blogs and watching YouTube, but it was a brand that I quickly developed an interest in. As a scientist, it’s refreshing to hear from a brand that clearly researches their ingredients, and of course their Beautypedia can be very helpful when doing your own research. Recently, I was give my own Paula’s Choice Skincare Routine, and I’ve been trying these products out for the past couple weeks and have my first impressions to share.
My morning Paula’s Choice Skincare Routine is quick, easy and effective. It includes three products: the Resist Perfectly Balanced Cleanser*, Resist Advanced Replenishing Toner* and the Hydralight Shine-Free Daily Mineral Complex SPF 30*.
The Paula’s Choice Resist Perfectly Balanced Cleanser is a creamy cleanser that’s meant for normal to combination skin. I still like using a makeup remover first but this cleanser is great at removing any makeup residue that might be left behind. Even though it’s intended for oilier skin, it’s not drying or irritating at all.
The Paula’s Choice Resist Advanced Replenishing Toner was suggested as a followup to the cleanser because it helps add some moisture back into my skin. It’s a nice soothing, calming toner that is intended to help improve skin texture over time.
The final step in my morning routine is the the Paula’s Choice Hydralight Shine-Free Daily Mineral Complex SPF 30. It was really important to me to have a moisturizer with SPF in the morning because even if that’s the last step of my routine and I don’t apply any makeup afterwards, as often happens, I want to make sure my skin is protected. Not only is the SPF great for daily wear, but I don’t find it greasy at all, and as long as I give it a minute or two to absorb in I have no issues applying makeup on top.
My Paula’s Choice Skincare Routine at night is a bit more complicated, but starts with the same cleanser and toner, followed by either the Exfoliating 8% AHA Gel* or Skin Perfecting 2% BHA Liquid Exfoliant*, then the Resist C15 Super Booster* mixed into the Resist Anti-Aging Clear Skin Hydrator*. These steps help treat and prevent my major skin concerns which are breakouts as well as unevenness and pigmentation.
I was most excited to try out the Paula’s Choice Exfoliating 8% AHA Gel after Jayne‘s review, and when I mentioned it to my Paula’s Choice skin expert, she immediately told me it was her favourite exfoliator from the brand as well (and they have plenty of options). I alternated between this product and the Skin Perfecting 2% BHA Liquid Exfoliant and definitely noticed both an improvement to my skin texture as well as far fewer breakouts when using it.
I alternated nights with my second exfoliant, the Paula’s Choice Skin Perfecting 2% BHA Liquid Exfoliant. This product is great for helping with redness, wrinkles, and evening out skin texture.
My biggest skincare concern is anything that can help fade pigmentation, because I scar easily. I was quite excited to try out the Paula’s Choice Resist C15 Super Booster, which can be used alone as a serum or mixed into your moisturizer. I add two drops to my moisturizer and apply to my whole face. Noticing differences in pigmentation is definitely more of a longterm skincare issue, but it has great reviews and I can’t wait to see how it fares!
I definitely need a little more moisture in my skin at night than during the day, so that’s why I’m using the Paula’s Choice Resist Anti-Aging Clear Skin Hydrator. This moisturizer is great because it has anti-aging properties (this is definitely something I am starting to consider!) but is also meant to stave off breakouts. As I said, my skin has been in good shape while using these products, and I actually got some breakouts when I was traveling and didn’t want to take the whole line with me, so I am excited to get back to regular use!
It’s not a skincare product, but Paula’s Choice also has a makeup range that’s always growing. One product I’d heard great things about and lusted over is the Paula’s Choice The Nude Mattes Eyeshadow Palette*. This is a great neutral palette that I’ve been mixing in with all my sparkly shadows to help blend and transition. Really loving it so far!
So far I have had a great experience using My Paula’s Choice Skincare Routine, and it is definitely one I will be continuing with after this blog post! There are definitely things you miss out on when you buy all your skincare based on what’s on sale at the drugstore, and Paula’s Choice was one of those brands, so I’m very excited to have had the chance to try it out.
