I’m (slowly) working my way through fall collections, which I hope to finish around the time it’s actually fall next week! Today’s offering are the Mary Kay Fall 2015 City Modern Eye Color Palettes*, which are joined by the nail polishes I already swatched (here), as well as three lipsticks.
There are two Mary Kay Fall 2015 City Modern Eye Color Palettes, a warm-toned City Sophisticate and a cool-toned Metro Modern, which have a geometric design that really does capture the architectural feeling of the collection. As always, these palettes come in a simple plastic case and have a magnetic backing so you can add them to Mary Kay palettes (sold separately) or your own. It doesn’t look chic, but it’s kinda refreshing not to have a ton of bulky packaging!
I’ve always been quite impressed by Mary Kay eyeshadows, and the Mary Kay Eye Color Palette in City Sophisticate is no exception. The shades include a muted, grey silver metallic with sparkles, an antique gold metallic, a pale shimmery pink with sparkles, and a dark burgundy with a satin finish and a tiny amount of shimmer. All the shades are fairly pigmented, but the silver and gold formula is especially nice and creamy.
I applied the pink from the Mary Kay Eye Color Palette in City Sophisticate on my inner corner, used the gold all over the lid, and then used the burgundy in the crease in the above photos. I feel like you can use 2 to 3 shades from this quad together quite nicely, but with my skill level I couldn’t quite work in the 4th.
The shades in the Mary Kay Fall 2015 City Modern Eye Color Palettes do have fallout, and they can be almost a bit too creamy so I found that I had to do some under-eye cleanup when applying. I also find they can blend out a bit too much, so I have to be careful when applying. For the same reason, I think use of a primer is really important because it will help the shades stick better.
The shades in the Mary Kay Eye Color Palette in Metro Modern are much more cool-toned, and lean quite blue and grey. The shades include a very rich metallic taupe brown, a slightly sheer dark navy with sparkle, a pale icy blue with subtle sparkles, and a dark grey-leaning brown with a satin finish.
The formula of the Mary Kay Eye Color Palette in Metro Modern is quite similar to City Sophisticate, which is overall very pigmented but a bit too creamy so there will definitely be fall out and the potential for over-blending. These shades are ones I am less interested in, but with so many warm-toned shadows out there it’s always nice to see a cool-toned palette.
One of my favourite products from Mary Kay are the eyeshadows and while the Mary Kay Fall 2015 City Modern Eye Color Palettes includes some pigmented, rich shades, I did find I had to be a little more careful with application than I have in the past. Still, the palettes have a gorgeous design and worth considering if these shades are missing from your collection!
