In February, I reviewed/declared my love for the original Make Up For Ever Smoky Extravagant Mascara which I received as part of the Make Up For Ever Give In To Me Makeup Kit, but the brand has now launched a new variation meant to lengthen and define, the Make Up For Ever Smoky Stretch Mascara*.
Make Up For Ever Smoky Stretch Mascara comes in the same sleek but straightforward packaging as the original, but once opened the differences are immediately obvious. While the Make Up For Ever Smoky Extravagant Mascara has a thick, ‘Christmas tree’ type brush meant for volumizing, the Make Up For Ever Smoky Stretch Mascara has a thin, narrow brush with rubber bristles.
I find the thinner wand of the Make Up For Ever Smoky Stretch Mascara easier to apply mascara with, and it definitely does a better job separating and defining lashes (as promised!) I went for two coats on my upper lashes and one coat on my lower lashes, and the result is fairly dramatic. The brush is great for making sure you get all your lashes, including those little baby ones at the edges. However, if I’m honest I prefer the thick, volumized lashes of the Make Up For Ever Smoky Extravagant Mascara in comparison to this version.
You can check out how this mascara looks as a part of a full makeup look in my Estee Lauder Courreges Lip + Cheek Ball & Iridescent Ball Highlighter review. Similar to the original, I had sad flaking issues with the Make Up For Ever Smoky Stretch Mascara, and I actually think it was worse (although the weather was also warmer). That said, even though I had some flakes at the end of the day, my mascara itself still looked flawless so there was plenty left on my lashes.
Unfortunately even though I found the Make Up For Ever Smoky Stretch Mascara flaked on me, it doesn’t seem to be an issue with the other reviews I’ve seen. I’m a big fan of the original Make Up For Ever Smoky Extravagant Mascara, which I still recommend if you’re looking for BAM lashes with volume, but for daily wear and long, defined length the new Make Up For Ever Smoky Stretch Mascara is a great option.
