If I had to pick a favourite format for makeup it would definitely be the no-sharpener-needed crayon. Lips, eyes, I just love how convenient and easy to use they are, but what matters the most is what is inside the packaging. I’ve been trying out one such product–the MAKE UP FOR EVER Aqua Matic Eyeshadow Pencil in I-20* and S-60*– and I’m finally ready to share my thoughts.
The MAKE UP FOR EVER Aqua Matic Eyeshadow Pencil is available in ten shades, and I was lucky enough to try two of them. I-20 is an iridescent turquoise, while S-20 is a satiny warmy brown a little more within my comfort zone. Despite the slight difference in finishes, both shades are very creamy and incredibly pigmented and I had similar results with both when it came to performance as well. MUFE makes some pretty bold claims about the lasting power of this product, apparently it was tested for five hours under water, and I was interested to put them to the test (although I couldn’t actually test under water for five hours sadly). When I first swatched these on my arm they lasted through two showers looking pretty good! I was actually a bit nervous to try them on my eyes I had such a hard time with removal. However, it turns out the secret is an oil-based remover, and you will definitely need it, they aren’t lying about it being waterproof!
In terms of packaging, the MAKE UP FOR EVER Aqua Matic Eyeshadow Pencil in I-20 and S-60 come in my loveable crayon format but they also include a hidden sharpener in the base so that you can keep the tip pointed if you want to use this product as a liner. These shadows set quite quickly, so I don’t find them super blendable and I prefer to use them as a liner or a base rather than as an eye look on their own, however if you work quickly you could blend, and it would last that way for the rest of the day. Wearing these shadows my (eye) makeup looked the same at the end of the day as it did in the morning, this is definitely a great product for summer or any time you might be outside all day or near water.
In the photo below, I’m wearing both the MAKE UP FOR EVER Aqua Matic Eyeshadow Pencil in I-20 (lower lash line) and S-60 (upper lash line) in the photo below. My cheek and lip colour is the Stila Convertible Color in Peony* and my mascara is Marcelle Xtension Plus + ProLash Growth Complex Mascara*.
I really love the pop of colour you get from using a bright shade like the MAKE UP FOR EVER Aqua Matic Eyeshadow Pencil in I-20 along the lower lash line, but the last thing I want is to end up with it all over my face by the end of the day, so a fantastic waterproof formula like this one is perfect. I’m more likely to use S-60 as a smudge-proof base for my shadow on my lids, or as a liner on its own for colour that lasts all day. And lasts. And lasts. Like I said, make sure you grab an oil-based remover! My micellar water was hopeless.
Overall, I think the MAKE UP FOR EVER Aqua Matic Eyeshadow Pencil in I-20 and S-60 are the longest lasting make up products I have ever tried and if you have issues with runaway liner, or are just looking for something to last you through the heat and humidity that is July, I highly recommend trying these out!
