Today I have a few pieces from the newly launched MAC Zac Posen collection to share with you including the Lipstick in Sheer Madness*, Fluidline Pen in Retro Black* and Powder Blush Duo in Haute Contour*. I mostly am familiar with Zac Posen from his stint as a Project Runway judge but there were some really pretty pieces in the collection, such as the Eyeshadow x 6 Eye Z You, that really caught my attention so I was excited to try out a few bits and of course, if it’s MAC, I’m going to be thrilled to review it for you.
The MAC Zac Posen Collection is mostly limited edition products with a few permanent ones available in LE packaging. The packaging has a dark grey, almost green-ish colour with a matte finish and square edges, with the exception of the Fluidline Pen. Each product also features the Zac Posen name in gold. While it’s not the most exciting LE packaging MAC has ever released, it is quite sleek and classic, and the metal packaging of the MAC Zac Posen Lipstick in Sheer Madness and Haute Contour Powder Blush Duo feels nice and heavy.
The MAC Zac Posen Fluidline Pen in Retro Black is a permanent product available for this collection in limited edition packaging. I talk a lot about how I don’t wear eyeliner on Writing Whimsy–mostly every time I review an eyeliner–and liquid liner in particular is just not something I am very good at it.
As a novice, I found that the pigmentation of the MAC Zac Posen Fluidline Pen in Retro Black was great, really black and opaque, but that the nib applicator was really bendy which made it difficult for me to apply. The liner looked great all day so I suspect this would be a good choice for somebody with a bit more skill than I possess (which is none).
The MAC Zac Posen Collection features three lipsticks and while the other two shades are a super pigmented, vibrant orange and pink the one I received is the quite subtle MAC Zac Posen Lipstick in Sheer Madness. I could not be happier. This lipstick is a sheer, champagne with a pink iridescence to it. It is a Lustre formula, which is a sheer formula that is the closest to a tinted balm among the MAC lipsticks and my favourite formula from them.
Applied to the lips, the MAC Zac Posen Lipstick in Sheer Madness offers a slight champagne tint as well as shimmer, but it’s definitely subtle. It’s super comfortable to wear but only lasts about an hour before it has to be reapplied. This subtle shade is not going to win everyone over, but I think it’s really pretty, easy to wear, and doesn’t need a mirror to apply so I am happy to have it.
The final product I tried is the MAC Zac Posen Powder Blush Duo in Haute Contour. I absolutely adored the blushes in the MAC Flamingo Park Collection (reviewed here) so I had high hopes for this one. This duo is about 70% warm brown with a satin finish, and 30% pink coral with a golden shimmer.
While the bronzer in the MAC Zac Posen Powder Blush Duo in Haute Contour is a little firm it does have an overall nice formula. The shade is fairly warm but I think it would be great during the summer months. Unfortunately I found the blush portion to be really, really, difficult to get any colour from. I’m not sure what MAC did to that shade but it is not up to their usual quality. I prefer to just use the two blended together which lightens up the bronzer and adds a subtle golden shimmer to it.
For the above look I used all three products from the MAC Zac Posen Collection. I used the MAC Zac Posen Fluidline Pen in Retro Black as well as mascara to my eyes, and used the MAC Zac Posen Lipstick in Sheer Madness on my lips. I blended together the two shades of the MAC Zac Posen Powder Blush Duo in Haute Contour with a dense brush and applied fairly heavily to my cheeks.
Overall, I think the MAC Zac Posen Collection is a great mix of classic products that are easy to wear. I definitely think that the standout products are the lipsticks, both the MAC Zac Posen Lipstick in Sheer Madness as well as the Darling Clementine and Dangerously Red, two highly pigmented matte shades.
Have you picked anything up from the MAC Zac Posen Collection? Will you?
