I know that MAC may do more limited edition collections than other brands, but the truth is I’m not tired of them. There is always something fun waiting to be released and one of the most exciting upcoming launches is the MAC Star Trek Collection! There’s a pretty big range of products launching but I have three, the MAC Pressed Pigment Eyeshadow in Bird of Prey and To Boldy Go as well as the MAC Trip The Light Fantastic Powder in Highly Illogical, to share with you.
The entire MAC Star Trek Collection has some fun limited edition packaging that fits right in with permanent products while having a unique twist to it. Both the MAC Pressed Pigment Eyeshadow in Bird of Prey and To Boldy Go as well as the MAC Trip The Light Fantastic Powder in Highly Illogical have matte black packaging with a silver Star Trek logo on the lid. The pan inside have a silver rim to them giving it a futuristic look compared to classic MAC packaging, where it is also matte black.
I really love MAC’s pigments but I’ve never tried the pressed pigment format before so I was quite excited for the MAC Star Trek Collection Pressed Pigment Eyeshadow in Bird of Prey and To Boldy Go. These can be used wet or dry, although they have only been used dry in this post.
The MAC Bird of Prey Pigment is an olive green with a golden shimmer to it, while the MAC To Boldly Go Pressed Pigment is a warm coppery reddish brown. Both shades are buildable but To Boldly Go is definitely more opaque when applied dried. If you are going to use these dry, I highly recommend applying your eyeshadow before your foundation because there is fallout when applying. However the end result is really stunning and definitely worth it!
In the above look I applied the MAC Star Trek Collection Pressed Pigment Eyeshadow in To Boldy Go all over the lid and then Bird of Prey in the crease. I definitely lost some of the impact of Bird of Prey by applying it this way, and both shades have so much depth they could easily be applied all over the lid alone. Without a primer I did get a little fallout over time but a primer, or a damp application, would likely fix that. The MAC Trip The Light Fantastic Powder in Highly Illogical is a brand new formula from the brand and there are three shades available, with Highly Illogical being the darkest. It’s a swirled mix of plum, gold and bronze shimmer that looks absolutely stunning in the pan. Mixed together, the end result is a peachy shimmery bronze. The texture is smooth but a bit dry in the pan, although it’s still super blendable and lovely on the skin.
In the above look I’m wearing the MAC Star Trek Collection Pressed Pigment Eyeshadow in Bird of Prey and To Boldy Go on the eyes as well as the Trip The Light Fantastic Powder in Highly Illogical on my cheeks. Highly Illogical is a pretty flexible shade that could work as a gorgeous highlighter on darker skin tones. On lighter skintones like mine it provides a luminous bronze glow. I wore it more as a blush, but you can also use a fluffy brush to apply it all over for a bit of added bronzing (I did that a little bit too!). I was a little scared when I first swatched but I really love the way it looks!
The MAC Star Trek Collection Pressed Pigment Eyeshadow in Bird of Prey and To Boldy Go and Trip The Light Fantastic Powder in Highly Illogical are only three of the many exciting products launching as part of this upcoming collection, but they are all ones I am confident recommending!
You can get your hands on these products, as well as the rest of the collection, when it launches in stores in North America on September 1st. Will you be picking anything up from the MAC Star Trek Collection?
