MAC Spring 2017 launches include 14 new shades of their Retro Matte Liquid Lipcolour formula, and considering how much I loved it when it first launched–see my review of three shades here–I was excited to learn the brand was extending the range. Even better, they were adding NEUTRALS, which is exactly what I wished for a year ago in my review! Of course, I ended up with the MAC Retro Matte Liquid Lipcolour in Chocotease to review which is not the most neutral neutral, but there are definitely some safer shades available as well.
The packaging of the MAC Retro Matte Liquid Lipcolour in Chocotease is the same as the original shades, basically a giant lipstick tube looking lid with a transparent tube on the bottom to hold the liquid lipstick. It has a mousse-like texture and a classic MAC vanilla scent.
MAC Chocotease is a dark, warm brown with a matte finish. It has great coverage but as you can tell in the lip swatch, there was a tiny bit of translucency near the centre of my lips, so I did dab a bit more on after left it fully opaque. This shade is totally outside my comfort zone and honestly not something I would reach for, but if you are all about that brown lipstick then this is a great option.
Applied to the lips, I do find MAC Retro Matte Liquid Lipcolour in Chocotease slightly drying, but that’s generally the case with liquid lipstick formulas. It wears well and it’s definitely a unique shade. Although most of the shades added are permanent, Chocotease is limited edition, so if you are looking to add it to your collection you’ll definitely want to act quickly!
