Pretty soon you’ll be able to get any makeup product you want at the drugstore instead of heading to Sephora or a KBeauty website. I mean, I just tried out my first Cushion Foundation from Pur Minerals and already there’s the L’Oreal True Match Lumi Cushion Foundation*.
I have had really good experiences with L’Oreal foundations and gave rave reviews to the last two I tried, the L’Oreal Infallible Pro-Matte Foundation and the L’Oreal Magic Nude Liquid Powder so I was definitely excited to receive their latest innovation, the L’Oreal True Match Lumi Cushion Foundation in N3.5. This foundation comes in a traditional cushion compact, which has a really pretty rose gold lid that opens up to a mirror on the inside as well as a puff applicator. There’s a plastic lid beneath the puff, and that stays tightly shut to keep the cushion from drying out. When you flip it open, FOUNDATION.
Based on my cushion foundation experience of 1, the L’Oreal True Match Lumi Cushion Foundation has a traditional foundation-soaked cushion inside. The only disappointment I have is unlike Pur Minerals you can’t replace the cushion so you have to buy an entire new compact. I’ve also noticed cushion foundations tend to hold a lot less product than a traditional bottle. For comparison, the L’Oreal Infallible Pro-Matte Foundation contains 1 oz of product, while this foundation has only 0.51 oz. However, you really don’t need to apply much so it may last just as long–time will tell!
The L’Oreal True Match Lumi Cushion Foundation is available in 12 shades, and they are divided up into three ranges with 4 shades for Warm, Neutral, and Cool Undertones. The shade I received is the second lightest neutral shade, N3.5. This shade is obviously way too dark for me, but what I thought was interesting is that for something in the “neutral” category I do find it very yellow. I would generally think I was best suited with a “warm” foundation, but I wouldn’t want it to be any warmer than this shade!
As dark as the L’Oreal True Match Lumi Cushion Foundation in N3.5 looks swatched, it doesn’t actually look horrible applied because it seems to blend out much lighter. Possibly magic? It applies with sheer but buildable coverage, and I went with 2 “layers” in the above photos. You won’t get full coverage, but it definitely helps hide redness and even out skintone.
I applied the L’Oreal True Match Lumi Cushion Foundation in N3.5 by pressing the puff into the cushion to pick up product and then using it all over my face. It applied really evenly and blended naturally into my skin, giving it a flawless, slightly luminous finish. I did find that it quickly got more glowy within an hour of wear and wore away quickest on my nose, so I do not think this is a good foundation for oily skin. However, it did not emphasize any dry patches, which is great during the winter weather. That said, it doesn’t wear very long on me and without setting powder started to wear off within 6-7 hours.
I’m really excited to see a cushion foundation at the drugstore, and although I’ll have to see it in store to really judge how good the shade range is–and find my correct shade–I really enjoy the luminous, natural finish of the L’Oreal True Match Lumi Cushion Foundation. I tend to reach for more matte foundations, and while I appreciate their longer wear, I think this is a great option to get a little more glow into your face, especially during the dull, winter weather.
Have you tried a cushion foundation yet? What KBeauty product are you hoping to see cross over into the drugstore?
