The Lancome Lip Lover is a lipstick meets lip balm meets lip gloss resulting in a fantastic product I have been loving for weeks and somehow managed to miss reviewing in the midst of my move/job change. Hence the unusual background for the product photos. But nevermind, today I am finally sharing the Lancome Lip Lover in Rose Ballet* and Bordeaux Tempo*, two very different shades of the new product.
Despite the shade differences, there are a few things both Lancome Lip Lover in Rose Ballet and Bordeaux Tempo have in common. First is the gorgeous packaging, with has a “lock” to the tube you have to push down the button on and release, keeping it quite safe from opening in your purse as well as one-hand-friendly. The Lip Lover formula feels like wearing a melted lip balm, it’s very comfortable and moisturizing, but at the same time it does provide pigment. They are not sticky at all! Both shades have a doe-foot applicator with a bit of an indentation in it that “holds” product meaning that you don’t need to go back into the tube for a complete application. There is a very, very, subtle scent to the product, that I can barely notice in the tube and definitely not on the lips.
Lancome Lip Lover in Rose Ballet is a light pink with a touch of shimmer, that I thought I would prefer out of the two, but despite how comfortable it is to wear, the shade is not a huge success for me. It’s hard to describe, but the Lancome Lip Lover has a cushiony feel to it on the lips. I think these are a lip gloss for people who don’t like lip gloss, or even if you don’t like lip gloss, you would probably like these as well! This is a very moisturizing product, but it does have a similar wear to a lip balm, which is a couple hours for me and not through eating and drinking. I will probably end up layering this shade more than wearing it alone.
In contrast, Lancome Lip Lover in Bordeaux Tempo is one of the darkest shades available, which is basically the opposite of what I look for in a lip product… and yet. I love this shade, which gives a juicy berry stain that is absolutely perfect for fall (or all year round, it is so pretty!) This shade is perfectly named as it really is a wine-colour, and although it might settle very very slightly into lip lines, it’s not noticeable unless you’re holding a camera two cms from your mouth. Although the gloss wear isn’t any longer than Rose Ballet, it does leave behind a pretty stain that continues to last afterwards. Such a surprise hit for me, but I adore Lancome Lip Lover in Bordeaux Tempo and plan to use it to slowly lead myself into darker lips in time for fall. Or maybe I’ll just wear this.
