As soon as I took a look at the Lancome French Idole Fall 2014 collection–jewel-toned and shimmering–I knew I needed the nail polishes! Luckily I have all three shades Lancome French Idole Fall 2014 Nail Polish: Tourmaline Noire*, Topaz Rose* and Amethyste Brune*.
Lancome nail polishes are a lot smaller than the average bottle, as the bottles hold only 6 mL of polish which is less than half of what most brands contain. However, how often do you finish a bottle of polish? My main issue with small bottles are small brushes, and I loved the brushes on the Lancome French Idole Fall 2014 Nail Polish so I have no complaints.
The first shade I tried was Lancome Tourmaline Noire, which is described as an intense, dark khaki and it definitely looks greenish black. It does need two coats to make it opaque and even, but although there is a hint of green that takes this from being a plain black polish, to me it’s definitely not as exciting as the other two shades in the Lancome French Idole Fall 2014 Nail Polish collection. That said, there’s something a little gothic and fall-appropriate about the shade.
I thought the final shade would be my favourite but it turned out it was actually Lancome Topaz Rose, a pink shade with purple lurking in it. I could almost get away with one coat of this polish but I did even it out with two for a perfect and super glossy finish. The other two shades of polish in the Lancome French Idole Fall 2014 collection are quite dark, so I like how this pink offers some brightness while still being a gorgeous jewel-tone for fall. All of the shades shift between colours a bit, but I think Topaz Rose does the best job translating that shift onto the nail as well.
The final shade of polish in the Lancome French Idole Fall 2014 Collection is a dark purple that definitely says both fall and gemstone to me, Amethyste Brune. Like Tourmaline Noire, this was streaky and sheer with one coat and so it required two, but it looked great that way, just darker than I expected from the bottle although still with a bit of a magenta shift to it that’s quite pretty. As I said, I ended up preferring Topaz Rose on the nails, but I do like this shade as well, that pink is just so gorgeous!
Wear time on these polishes was pretty good, I tested out Amethyste Brune and it looked nice for about three days before it started to chip and I actually ended up wearing the polish for nearly a week before I really had to take it off.
As expected, I’d say the must-have from the Lancome French Idole Fall 2014 Nail Polish is Topaz Rose for me, but all three shades are perfect for fall and it’s a great, curated collection from Lancome. What polish shade is your favourite?
