While I definitely got distracted reviewing the new Kat Von D Shade + Light Eye Contour Quad in Rust first, because colour cosmetics are always the most exciting, I actually have a second recent launch from the brand to share with you. Plus, not only does the Kat Von D Color Correcting Eyeshadow Primer in Fair pair well with the rusty quad you hopefully pick up, but it works great with any other eyeshadows too.
The Kat Von D Color Correcting Eyeshadow Primer comes in a twist up pencil format (and we all know how much I love not having to sharpen things!) It has a sharpener on the bottom and the packaging is classic KVD, black and silver. You can tell the shade you have by the colour of the sharpener on the bottom, because yup, there are actually 5 different shades of this primer!
I have the Kat Von D Color Correcting Eyeshadow Primer in Fair, which is the lightest shade and basically the exact same colour as the inside of my arm (yes, there’s a swatch there!) The shades Light, Medium, Tan and Deep are also available. I love that there is such a selection, because the level of pigmentation means this works not only to intensify and increase the wear of shadows, but also to help hide veins and create an even canvas for shadow application.
In the above look I’m wearing Kat Von D Color Correcting Eyeshadow Primer in Fair on (your) right, applied with the Quo Eyeshadow Palette in High Tide from the Summer Collection. The Primer has a drier consistency so I do have to blend it a bit with my finger after I apply it to my lid to warm it up. I would prefer if it was a bit creamier, but that would probably also lead to creasing!
The Kat Von D Color Correcting Eyeshadow Primer has a light tackiness that I think helps the shadow to stick better, and maybe it is subtle in the photo, but I was really impressed by how much better and more pigmented these (powdery) eyeshadows looked when applied over the primer.
Of course, the most important thing about a Primer is the wear, and while I don’t have super oily eyelids to begin with, I had great results with the Kat Von D Color Correcting Eyeshadow Primer in Fair. Unfortunately it was always too dark by the end of the day to capture a good photo, but I tested it out on a few days where I used the KVD Primer on one lid and nothing on the other. I found that the shadows faded less and saw significantly less creasing when I used the Primer.
It’s really great to see an eyeshadow primer available in so many different shades–I mean, 5 is a lot for something that’s going to have pigmented product applied on top. However, in addition to a great shade range, the Kat Von D Color Correcting Eyeshadow Primer in Fair increased the pigmentation and wear of my eyeshadows. Definitely worth checking out if you’re looking for a new eyeshadow primer.
