I know I just did my June Empties, but all that means is that my July 2015 Empties are actually on time, so let’s consider that a win. Part of the reason my empties posts are always late is because I wait until the 1st of the month to even take my photos because what if I finish something else? In this case, I knew I was going to be traveling starting on the 30th, so I took them early, and it’s actually way less pressure, so I might do that and then just try really hard not to finish anything in the last couple days? That’s kinda a plan.
We finished up two more hand soaps for my July 2015 Empties, and shockingly, I actually only have ONE soap in my stockpile now, which if you have the same kind of beauty habits as me is pretty impressive. My plan is to use up some of my trillion shower gels as hand soap next. The Dial Foaming Hand Wash in Watery Melon* was a yummy scent although I wish it had been a bit stronger, while the Bath and Body Works Gentle Foaming Hand Soap in Cucumber Melon was an old boring one I thought would be kitchen-friendly, and it was, but also just boring.
I used up the Dr. Jones Organic Shampoo* which was from the Saffron Rouge Inner Circle September 2013 box (yikes) and great because it is actually not-for-profit and benefits environmental groups, however it is too drying for my hair. The Dove Pure Care Dry Oil Conditioner* was really lovely in scent and consistency, but mostly made me miss the matching shampoo. I also used up the Nair Moroccan Argan Oil Ultimate Roll On Face Wax*, which was pretty good but much better when I used it the first time than the second because it got sticky and was harder to get wax from.
I have a lot of hair masks and although the Garnier Fructis Damage Eraser Strength Reconstructing Butter* has a great scent, I am not a big fan of tubs and wasn’t blown away by the product itself. To be honest, I kinda just wanted it done. The Body Shop Strawberry Body Butter* was yummy, but I already have quite a few other scents in my stockpile to work on.
I seem to take forever to use up face washes, but I finally said goodbye to the Jack Black Pure Clean Daily Facial Cleanser*, which was a gentle, creamy option that worked great in the shower but was fairly basic. I really enjoyed the COLAB Dry Shampoo in Rio* which was a yummy tropical scent and quite effective on the days I had straightened my hair and it needed some help.
I also had a Lush Hot Toddy Shower Gel* which I only realized at the end had shimmer in it. It has a nice cinnamon scent but it’s not my favourite ever from the brand and there are others I’d repurchase first. I also had two travel-friendly minis of the Baylis & Harding Sweet Mandarin & Grapefruit Shampoo* and Conditioner* which had a nice scent but were too drying for my hair.
I just shared my thoughts on THEFACESHOP Face Masks in Aloe*, Avocado* and Black Seed* so I will link there. I also had a pack of Swisspers Organic Cotton Rounds to finish up and now I’m all done with cotton pads. These were alright but I am definitely thinking about buying the Shiseido ones again.
I can’t believe I finished up the Avalon Organics Vitamin C Renewal Vitality Facial Serum but I admit at the end there was a pump or two I just tossed because it was getting pretty old. It’s crazy because I never finish serums, but I used this so inconsistently I’m not even sure if it did anything, and I have another Vitamin C one I am using instead now. I also (minus a tiny bit at the bottom) finished up a Kiehl’s Acne Blemish Control Daily Skin-Clearing Treatment*, which seemed to last forever since it’s the only blemish treatment I’ve been using for over a year. It was gentle but almost too gentle, I think I prefer something that really zaps my skin.
I also had a little Sephora Express Eye Makeup Remover Wipe which strangely only came with one for one eye…although it was effective enough I managed to use it on both.
In terms of July 2015 Empties verging on makeup, there’s my favourite Compliments Nail Polish Remover, a Demeter Fragrance in Baby Powder* which was great as room spray, a little sample of the Replica Beach Walk EdT which actually reminded me quite a bit of the Demeter Salt Air scent although a little more complex. I have a ton of fragrance but it was pretty refreshing and nice.
I finally said goodbye to my second Benefit Gimme Brow (this one was a gift) and I was really sad to see it go but I found another wonderful brow product to use this month instead. I’m really surprised how long this tiny product lasts, and I would definitely pick up another tube in the future.
I also cleaned out my mascara stash a little and tossed the L’Oréal Miss Manga Mascara* which I wasn’t a massive fan of, and the Smashbox Photo Op Eye Brightening Mascara* which I adored and was really sad to toss. I would definitely consider repurchasing the Smashbox when I don’t have so many mascaras to use, as it might be my favourite mascara ever.
Apparently I didn’t do that great a job on my tea in July, but I have a few little packages I finished up including the DAVIDsTEA Pom Tango* (YUM!), DAVIDsTEA Salted Caramel (pretty good but not amazing and I have a lot of black tea and don’t drink it nearly enough), DAVIDsTEA Main Squeeze (one of my favourites, already have a big tin) and Tea Ave Rose Oolong* (a nice soft, floral oolong).
My July 2015 Empties included Beauty: 25 and Tea: 4.
Year-to-date totals? Beauty: 130 and Tea and Candles: 59.
That’s it for now! I’m away for half of August, but I’ll definitely see what kind of damage I can do when I get back!
