Julep Catrina

Julep Catrina 2A Julep July post in the morning? What madness is this! Well this is the makeup post for the day I missed when I was without electricity, so you’ll still get your usual Julep programming in the evening but Julep Catrina is sneaking in this morning like a little yellow ray of sunshine.

Julep Catrina 3Even though I’m not usually a yellow lover, there was something that just drew me to Julep Catrina when it was a part of the Julep Maven September 2013 box (shared here). Julep Catrina is described as a “marigold yellow crème” and that’s pretty accurate but unfortunately even though it’s a really pretty, surprisingly wearable yellow, it’s just got the standard yellow polish formula flaws.

Julep CatrinaWith one coat of Julep Catrina the result is streaky and sheer, and the formula itself is a bit gloopy. Adding a second coat (as seen in these photos) helps to even things out a bit, but it is still pretty streaky. My photos are definitely more forgiving than the polish is in person, but overall it’s not horrible, just not great. I usually stick to yellow for nail art purposes only but I like Julep Catrina enough I might just wear it on its own, but the formula means my hesitations about yellow polish still remain.
