There aren’t a lot of brands they sell at Sephora that would make good items for a male gift guide, and although Jack Black is an awesome skincare brand with offerings that men and women can enjoy, the fact that a lot of their products are targeted at shaving beards, kinda indicates their intended audience. Of course, that doesn’t stop me from wanting to try them out, especially with their lip balms being a cult favourite.
I was able to test out three different gift sets for the holidays, all of which would make great purchases for the guy you don’t know what to buy for. There’s the Jack Black Core Collection*, the Jack Black Balm Squad*, and finally the Jack Black Jet Set Traveler Set*. That’s a lot of pretty blue!
I’ll start with the most luxurious set, the Jack Black Core Collection. It comes with three products in generous sizes, a 6 oz Pure Clean Daily Facial Cleanser, 6 oz Beard Lube Conditioning Shave and a 3.3 oz Double Duty Face Moisturizer SPF 20 with a pump. There’s also actually comes with a Jack Black cloth bag for storing the products, which is quite nice. Fortunately, I wasn’t able to test out the Beard Lube on my face, but I was impressed when I used it shaving. It does create a huge lather, but it does gives a close shave without clogging up the razor. While the cleanser is nice, I find that it’s quite runny so I have to be careful when opening the tube not to get too much out. The scent is faint, and it definitely benefits from following up with the moisturizer, which I really like and I definitely appreciate the SPF 20. There’s no residue, so if you do wear makeup, it would definitely work underneath it as well.
Out of the three sets in this Jack Black Holiday Gift Guide, I was most excited about the Jack Black Balm Squad, and this trio of the classic Moisture Therapy Lip Balms in Shea Butter, Mint and Asian Pear did not disappoint. I like the scent of all three, but I am especially fond of the pear–it’s just such an unusual scent and it smells really nice. The lip balms also contain SPF 25, and are extremely thick. Usually I am anti-squeeze tube, but with a balm like this, the alternative is a pot and I appreciate how much more convenient these are. I am really enjoying them so far, and I think they would make great stocking stuffers for anyone.
The final set of products is a great little trio, the Jack Black Jet Set Traveler Set. All three products are less than 100 mL, and they even come in a plastic case in case of leaks. Similar to the Core Collection, there’s a Pure Clean Daily Facial Cleanser and Double Duty Face Moisturizer SPF 20 in about half the size, but the shave product is the Supreme Cream Triple Cushion Shave Lather. As you’d expect from the name, this is a much richer, creamier shave product than the beard lube and would probably be a good choice for men with especially sensitive or dry skin. In addition to being great for travel, these smaller sizes are good for trying out the brand for the first time and I think you could still get a couple months of use out of them.
Sadly, that’s the end of my Jack Black Holiday Gift Guide! If you’re looking for a gift for a male, or just a line of products with no-fuss attached, or even just a really nice lip balm, this Jack Black is definitely a good brand to check out this holiday season. Have you tried anything from them before?
