Exactly one week ago, I had a very exciting, first time experience…I went to IMATS Toronto! As somebody who blogs in the middle of Nowhere, Nova Scotia, there are only a handful of times I have had the chance to meet up with other bloggers and I have never attended an official “press event” before.
While IMATS is aimed at makeup artists, not bloggers, it’s a pretty exciting event to get to cover. The support I have at Writing Whimsy enabled me to get a press pass, I had friends I wanted to see in Toronto (including other bloggers!) so it was perfect timing to head off for the weekend!
It was pretty funny because between IMATS and running my first 5K the next day with Chelle, I woke up earlier while ‘on vacation’ than I do at work. I met up around 7:30 with Chelle and Julie who helped make sure I didn’t get lost, and we headed over to the venue. Once inside, we had to wait for about an hour to get let in–but our press passes and early arrival put us at the front of the line! No complaints there. The above photo shows a glimpse of the view we had while waiting…all that makeup!
Once we got inside, we went shopping, and there were a lot of brands with great discounts as well as amazing makeup artist displays. There are also a bunch of seminars, and if I get a chance to go to a future IMATS I definitely want to experience more of them, but because of how many people I wanted to see on the weekend I didn’t get a chance to stick around for the full Saturday and Sunday. I still managed to get some shopping in, but I found it quite overwhelming at times and I’m glad we were there so early. For example, I didn’t see the MAKE UP FOR EVER eyeshadows when I first arrived, so I wasn’t sure I’d get anything from the booth even though it was 40% off. By the time I found them and made up my mind, it was about 30 or 40 minutes of waiting, and it got even worse later!
One of the real highlights of IMATS Toronto 2015 was definitely the chance to meet a contestant from a show I’ve been watching for years, Face Off. Stella Sensel from Season 7 was at the Kryolan booth, and she was just starting to apply some amazing work to her model. She was also incredibly sweet and happy to pose for a photo! I’m watching Season 9 of Face Off right now, and it’s so cool to have met a contestant.
As much fun as it is to buy discounted makeup, I would not have come all the way from Nova Scotia for IMATS Toronto 2015 if it wasn’t for the amazing bloggers in the Canadian Beauty Blogger Network that make it so much fun! Although it was too short, it was really great to see Julie again and do some awkward photo poses.
Here’s a group photo of the majority of the CBB that was at IMATS Toronto 2015 on Saturday. Even more showed up on Sunday (though I didn’t make it) as well as to our group lunch. Here’s a round up of all the ladies in the photo, make sure to follow their blogs if you don’t already!

In terms of the haul of things I picked up at IMATS Toronto 2015, I’m actually surprised (but happy) it wasn’t worse! There were some great discounts, but I have a lot of makeup, so I did a pretty good job restraining myself.
I did pick up a Zoella Fizz Bar (as a gift), a MAC Lipstick in Twig and Eyeliner in Powerline (both grabbed slightly afterwards in a little shopping trip with CBB ladies), the MAKE UP FOR EVER Artist Shadows in ME-612 (a bit of a fail, because I already have this shade…), ME-840, ME-700 and I-634, as well as a Z-palette. I also grabbed a gorgeous brush set from Royal & Langnickel on the recommendation of Julie. I’m probably most excited about the Z-palette because my MUG shadow collection finally has a home, as do my new MUFE shadows!
I’ll be honest that I did find IMATS a bit overwhelming at times, but it was still a really cool experience and one I was thrilled to share with such awesome ladies. I definitely can’t wait until I’m back in Toronto to see them all again!
