Holiday Gift Guide: Books for Creative People

Holiday Gift Guide Books for Creative People 2

Obviously, given the main focus of Writing Whimsy, I like makeup and so most of my gift guides revolve around makeup and what to give other people who like makeup. However, I also love books (as you can tell by my book reviews) and so today I have something a little different and I’m sharing 3 recently released books that would make great gifts for the creative people in your lives.

I haven’t read 2 of these books yet–the ones with, you know, words–but based on reviews I have heard good things about both. All three of these are definitely books I would purchase for creative family members or friends so maybe this post will give you some inspiration for somebody in your own life.

Lost Ocean by Johanna Basford Lost Ocean by Johanna Basford 3 Lost Ocean by Johanna Basford 2

I’ve been carefully following the adult colouring book craze for months if not years, but never made the leap. However, at the top of my wishlist was Enchanted Forest by Joanna Basford, probably the woman responsible for starting the whole craze in the first place. The Lost Ocean by Johanna Basford* is a recent release, and it is filled with intricate aquatic designs and patters to colour in. I’ve already started one design and I know it’s going to take me forever to finish that one, let alone the entire book. I think this would make a gorgeous gift this holiday season!

Big Magic by Elizabeth GilbertFrom the author of Eat, Pray, Love there’s a new book, Big Magic by Elizabeth Gilbert*. This is a book about uncovering creativity, embracing curiosity and tackling what you love. Big Magic would make an excellent gift for anyone looking to fulfill their creative side further and get inspired.

Hunger Makes me A Modern Girl by Carrie Brownstein

I’m actually not overly familiar with Sleater-Kinney or Portlandia, but the great reviews for Hunger Makes Me A Modern Girl by Carrie Brownstein* definitely caught my attention. This musical memoir is about a woman who struggled against an industry to recognize her as a female guitarist and captures life as a woman in a rock-and-roll band. I’m really excited to read this one so hopefully I’ll have a full review up in the coming weeks, but I already know it would make an excellent gift for the music lover in your life.

Holiday Gift Guide Books for Creative People

I think no matter what kind of creative person you are looking to buy for, one of these three books would make an amazing gift this holiday season. Have you tried out any of these books yet? Let me know! I’ll be digging into Hunger Makes Me A Modern Girl soon.
