Generation Beauty! I mean, I know bloggers flying in from all over Canada (BC, Quebec, Newfoundland) for this event and I’m pretty jealous I’m at home in Nova Scotia. BUT, essence cosmetics eased the pain a little by sending me a bunch of their gorgeous, affordable makeup to put together a GenBeauty Makeup Look that I’d wear if I was attending. Plus, whether you’re able to stop by their booth or not (but seriously, snap me if you do!) you’ll have a chance to win some essence goodies at the end of this post as well!If you’re a makeup lover in Toronto, there’s a good chance I know where you’ll be tomorrow,
Of course I want to start off with a nice base but I actually skipped the foundation, used a moisturizing green-tinted primer, and just went in to conceal any blemishes and dark circles under my eyes. The end result is flawless but natural, plus super comfortable to wear if you’re going to have a really long day since you don’t have to worry about foundation going patchy.
I actually used the essence say no to imperfections in 20 natural beige to cover any blemishes, and the essence pure nude concealer in 10 pure beige to brighten my under eye area using a slight triangle shape. Despite the concealer appearing much larger, they both contain about the same amount of product (2.9 grams vs 3.2 grams) and the light concealer shade works better to brighten on me. Both products come in a convenient crayon packaging, perfect for touch ups, and have a very creamy, thicker formula that offers high coverage and long wear.
For my face, I went with the essence sun club shimmer bronzing powder in 30 sunloved, which is a soft shimmering bronze that’s pretty much impossible to overapply. It’s great, easy glow for lighter skintones, and I love the embossed compact and silky texture. My only issue with essence bronzers is actually a selling point for a lot of people–they have a coconut scent which is pretty strong. I really dislike coconut fragrance so I find it kinda nauseating, but it does fade on the skin within an hour of application.
I own a few eyeshadow compacts from essence cosmetics and I’m always impressed by their shadows, but this was my first time trying out the essence cosmetics all about nude eyeshadow palette. This palette includes a mix of icy whites and pinks, and purples along with a taupe in mostly shimmery finishes. The formula is soft although the lighter shades are not heavily pigmented, however they are buildable and the look you see doesn’t use any primer. I did experience a lot of fallout when applying so I recommend doing it before any foundation, and also pairing with a primer for longer wear. However the shadows are really blendable and I am loving these shades, especially that purpley-grey shimmer on the top right.
Since my overall makeup look was quite natural, I definitely wanted to make my eyes pop and I think the icy whites and purples from the essence cosmetics all about nude eyeshadow palette are perfect to bring out the green in my eyes. I’m wearing the white shade on the inner corner, the silver-purple all over the lid, and the darkest purple in the crease. Of course I had to pair it with loads of lashes. I actually also used the lightest pink shade as a cheekbone highlight!
To make my eyes really pop I wanted an extreme volume mascara so of course I reached for the essence I love extreme volume mascara, I mean it’s in the name. This has a big, natural bristle brush like many volumizing mascaras do, which meant I got a dab of mascara on my eyelid since I am used to small skinny ones. However I loved the end result and even built it up with two coats. I did get some flaking but honestly, for those lashes, I’ll definitely be reaching for this mascara again! I rarely find a mascara that gives volume without being clumpy, and this one manages to do that!
The final two steps were lips and brows. After filling my brows I used the essence eyebrow fixing pencil to hold them in place. I honestly thought this product was pretty strange when I got it, but it works great. It’s easy to precisely apply the wax to your brows, and then I comb it through with the little brush on the cap and it holds my brows in place. essence has another new brow product I’m really lusting over, the essence make me brow eyebrow gel mascara, but I received the “blond” shade so it was too light for me.
On the lips I started off with the essence longlasting lipliner in 08 girl next door. I’ve got a full review of these liners come up so I won’t spend long on it except to say, super creamy, super wonderful.
Finally, I applied the essence liquid lipstick in 02 beauty secret to my lips. This definitely more of a gloss-lipstick hybrid, it is semi-sheer slightly dusty pink with a vanilla fragrance and doe foot applicator. It has a slightly tacky consistency on the lips but is still comfortable to wear. I don’t want a high maintenance lip colour when I’m going to have a long day, so this is perfect because it’s super easy to reapply.
I’ve also included swatches of all the makeup I used in this look including the essence pure nude concealer in 10 pure beige, esssence say no to imperfections in 20 natural beige, essence sun club shimmer bronzing powder in 30 sunloved, essence longlasting lipliner in 08 girl next door and essence liquid lipstick in 02 beauty secret.
And of course, I had to show you what it all looks like paired together! Here’s my GenBeauty Makeup Look with essence cosmetics. It’s natural but with an emphasis on the eyes and I feel polished but comfortable. If you are comfortable with bold lips and loads of colour, GO FOR IT, but when I’m in a new situation I prefer to stick with my comfort zone and that’s when I reach for a look like this.
