I loved last year’s Formula X Paint The Town set (review), and this year the brand is back with another special holiday kit of minis in even more creative packaging. The Formula X Bottle Service Set* includes 10 mini polishes, with 5 permanent shades and 5 exclusive, limited edition shades.
The polishes in the Formula X Bottle Service Set are a range of finishes, but all fit into a pretty neutral colour family. The packaging makes it a great gift, and the minis themselves are still quite easy to use. I like them so much I’ve actually finished a few of these in the past, including Moon Sign and Fathom (here) and Ignite (here). There are two repeats from the Formula X Paint The Town, Ignite and Dark Matter, but everyone can use another red and black polish.
I <3 Rouge is a bright red creme with a great formula, I could likely have gotten away with 1 coat, but I went with 2 to be totally opaque. Glitz (LE) is pretty, sheer, light gold glitter and I went with 2 coats but would get more use out of it as a topper. Dark Matter is a perfect black creme polish–I needed only one coat!
Luxe (LE) is shimmery pearl with a sheer formula that I used two coats for, I didn’t really like the end result but might prefer it as a topper. Spiked (LE) is nude brown creme with a great formula, another shade where 1 coat might work but I went with 2. Uncorked (LE) was my least favourite shade in the Formula X Bottle Service Set because this metallic gold is still a bit sheer with 2 coats and has a frosty, slightly brushstrokey finish.
Ignite is a dark vampy red crelly polish that I actually finished a mini bottle of already, it still has a tiny bit of VNL with 2 coats and can stain but the end result is super shiny and it’s just such a great fall and winter shade. Thrilling is a lavender grey creme that takes 2 coats and is still a little uneven. Intensity is a baby pink creme that requires 2 coats for an opaque finish. On the Rocks (LE) is another favourite, this dark brown with golden shimmer has a gorgeous formula and is opaque and even in 2 coats.
Although I preferred the shade selection of last year’s set, this year wins out on packaging since the champagne bottle is pretty adorable. You can even remove the bottom to use it again if you want! As always, I’m impressed with the formula of the Formula X polishes. My personal favourites Formula X Bottle Service Set are Ignite, On the Rocks and Dark Matter. What’s yours?
