I love the original Too Faced La Creme Lipsticks so I was really excited to learn about the launch of the Too Faced La Matte Color Drenched Matte Lipsticks*, which offer a creamy, highly pigmented comfortable matte formula.
Even the boxes of the new Too Faced La Matte Color Drenched Matte Lipsticks are pretty with a floral and peacock design. The initial range has 10 different shades, and I have 8 of them to swatch and share with you including As If, Bachelorette, Maneater, Pitch Perfect, Rebel Heart, Sorry Not Sorry, The New Black, and Troublemaker.
Packaging-wise, the Too Faced La Matte Color Drenched Matte Lipsticks are a nice companion to the La Cremes. The tubes are totally black, but when you remove the lid you see the same gold as the La Cremes. It makes it easy to tell the formulas apart, but they also all look really sleek beside each other. The tubes are embossed with “Too Faced” on the side and a “TF” on the lid.
The range of Too Faced La Matte Color Drenched Matte Lipsticks is really a bit of everything, a couple nudes, pinks, a red, a purple, an orange and even a dark vampy shade. They also have the same delicious sweet lemon scent as the La Cremes.
From left to right I’ve swatched the Too Faced La Matte Lipsticks in As If, Bachelorette, Maneater, Pitch Perfect, Rebel Heart, Sorry Not Sorry, The New Black, and Troublemaker. As you can tell, they all have a highly pigmented, nearly opaque formula and the only one with a bit of unevenness is Maneater. The shades I am missing are When In Doubt, a cool matte beige, and Hey Gurrl, a matte deep rose.
Applied to the lips, the Too Faced La Matte Color Drenched Matte Lipsticks have thinner consistency that hugs the lips to stop them from bleeding but may cling to dry patches or fine lines slightly depending on the shade. However, in general they offer a nearly opaque colour that lasted at least a few hours on me. The darker colours do leave behind a stain. While they aren’t as creamy as the La Creme formula, I definitely found them comfortable to wear with a soft matte finish that wasn’t drying over time.
The Too Faced La Matte Color Drenched Matte Lipstick in As If is a warm-toned bright pink lemonade. This is one of those shades I have more difficulty pulling off, and it does cling a little bit to dry patches, but it is really bright and cheerful.
The Too Faced La Matte Color Drenched Matte Lipstick in Bachelorette is warm coral pink matte. This shade is definitely one of the standouts to me, it applied gorgeously and looked especially juicy and ready for summer on the lips.
The Too Faced La Matte Color Drenched Matte Lipstick in Maneater is a matte black plum. Dark shades like this are notoriously difficult to pull off, and while Maneater is certainly better than the recently reviewed MAC Viva Glam Ariana Grande Lipstick, it has a more slippery, uneven consistency compared to the other shades. As soon as I pressed my lips together, the lipstick moved around, so it definitely needs a lipliner but you can get a nice finish like I did for the photos, it just need something underneath to hold it that way.
The Too Faced La Matte Color Drenched Matte Lipstick in Pitch Perfect is a matte fuchsia raspberry with strong purple tones to it. This is definitely another standout shade for me, LOVE.
The Too Faced La Matte Color Drenched Matte Lipstick in Rebel Heart is a cool red matte. This is a pretty classic shade but Too Faced does a great job with it and it’s really gorgeous to wear. I applied all the shades straight from the tube, but with the darker shades like this you could get an even crisper outline using a lip brush.
The Too Faced La Matte Color Drenched Matte Lipstick in Sorry Not Sorry is a matte peachy nude. I love my nude lipsticks and there are two in this collection although I just have the one (…so far!) The peachy tones definitely help make it a really wearable nude and it would look great with a smoky eye.
The Too Faced La Matte Color Drenched Matte Lipstick in The New Black is matte peachy orange. I’m generally not a fan of orange lipsticks but I really love this one, it just says summer to me. The coral lean of the shade is really pretty, although it is one of the colours that clings a little more to dry patches so I recommend exfoliating first.
The Too Faced La Matte Color Drenched Matte Lipstick in Troublemaker is a matte hot pink. This shade was another standout to me, it has gorgeous pigmentation and coverage and just applies really nicely.
As you would expect with a matte formula, the Too Faced La Matte Color Drenched Matte Lipsticks definitely feel a bit different from the La Cremes. However, they are still highly pigmented and almost all shades apply evenly and last really nicely on the lips. My personal standout picks are Bachelorette, Pitch Perfect and Troublemaker, but there are really so many gorgeous shades to choose from! These lipsticks are permanent but exclusive to Ulta as well as Too Faced.com
