Too Faced Dark Chocolate Soleil Matte Bronzer Swatches + Review

I feel like I have to start this review with the obvious: the Too Faced Dark Chocolate Soleil Matte Bronzer, intended for Deep/Tan skin, is not the correct shade for me. My light skintone is probably best suited to the regular Chocolate, or even Milk Chocolate shade, but hey, sometimes PR samples show up and you love the brand so much you decide to try them out anyway, which is exactly what happened with this too-dark bronzer. Plus, I mean, it smells like chocolate.

Starting with the packaging of the Too Faced Dark Chocolate Soleil Matte Bronzer, I love the fancy gold compact with a mirror on the lid. It closes securely and stays shut making it work great for travel. There’s also no excess space for any kind of brush/whatever you’re not going to use anyway.

too-faced-dark-chocolate-soleil-matte-bronzer-review-3Inside, the Too Faced Dark Chocolate Soleil Matte Bronzer contains plenty of product (10 grams) and although it doesn’t have adorable bunnies on it like the brand’s blush, it does smell like chocolate. I’m still trying to decide what’s better, but why not have both!

too-faced-dark-chocolate-soleil-matte-bronzer-swatches-reviewThe Too Faced Dark Chocolate Soleil Matte Bronzer is a warm medium brown, terra cotta shade with a matte finish. This is actually not quite as dark as I might have expected, and sheers/blends out really nice. This has the most perfect formula, smooth and silky and not at all chalky. It’s really really lovely to work with.

However, because it’s super blendable, the natural formula it is actually workable with a dark lip. Still, I would definitely reach for the Milk Chocolate or Chocolate shades instead, but if you have a darker skintone this would be a great pick.

too-faced-dark-chocolate-soleil-matte-bronzer-reviewAll the hype around these chocolate bronzers is real. Although the Too Faced Dark Chocolate Soleil Matte Bronzer isn’t the right shade match for me, it’s gotten me to fall in love with the formula and I’m definitely interested in picking up a lighter shade. I don’t wear bronzer often, so I’m tempted by one of the new adorable Too Faced Passport to Bronze Deluxe Bronzer & Flatbuki Brush Set which includes this shade as well as two others if you want bronzers that will work year-round.

Have you tried any of the Too Faced Chocolate Soleil Bronzers? Let me know!
