Awhile back I got some very lovely products from the essence fall 2016 collection, and although I have had to cut back on blogging over the past couple months I figured it wasn’t too late to let you know about these amazing new(ish) products you definitely want to check out. When it comes to products that are affordable, great quality, and continually on trend, there’s really no brand that can beat essence.
First up is are the essence 2in1 eyeshadow & liners, which are available in 4 neutral shades including peach perfect (02) and light me up (03). peach perfect is a metallic rose gold and light me up is a white shimmer, and both have a creamy, blendable formula. These shades are great for adding some brightness to the eye and can also form a nice base for powder shadows.
There’s also the new essence Effect Eye Pencil in Silver Surfer, although that is just one of 4 metallic shades available. I am not a big eyeliner fan in general and I found this formula a little too hard and sheer for what I wanted, but if you are looking for something just to use for the occasional statement look, the price (~$4) is hard to beat.
Whether you are spending $2 or $200, you want your makeup to last, so it’s really exciting to see these two new products from a budget brand. First is the essence I heart colour intensifying eyeshadow base, which is a smooth and blendable base for whatever eyeshadow you want to apply on top. It definitely makes eyeshadow easier to apply, although I didn’t find it as crease-resistant as some of the other eyeshadow primers I’ve used, it’s definitely a great option for the price.
The Loblaws exclusive essence Keep it Perfect! Make-Up Fixing Spray isn’t my favourite formula for the product (I can feel it on my skin afterwards a bit) but the travel-size bottle is convinent and it definitely does help makeup last.
In terms of mascara, essence launched three new options in the “forbidden volume” range. These mascaras include the essence Forbidden Volume mascara with a conic-shaped brush and thickening formula, the essence Forbidden Volume Mascara Rebel for a fiber-filled mascara with extra volume, and the essence Forbidden Volume Mascara False Lash Mascara Top Coat, which can be applied on top of any mascara, at any time of day to refresh your makeup with new black fibres.
In the above look, I’m wearing both 2in1 eyeshadow shades as well as the essence Forbidden Volume mascara. Like most essence mascaras, I didn’t have a big issue with flaking, despite being prone to it. It definitely adds some volume to my lashes and I love the end result!
I love essence cheek products so I was pretty excited about those new launches! The two e-commerce exclusive essence Mosaic Blushes include the shades all you need is pink (20) and the berry connection (40). The blushes look gorgeous in the pan and do apply nicely but I find them slightly chalky in comparison to the regular essence blushes which I absolutely adore.
The new products also included an absolutely stunning essence Pure Nude Highlighter. Seriously, this baked highlighter gives a gorgeous glow that can easily be built up from natural to Instagram-ready and if there’s one product you grab from this post, this should be it!
Finally, we have the lips. I am a huge fan of lip oils so I was really excited about essence launching their own, which contains jojoba oil and gives a shiny, sheer finish, available in 3 different shades. I have the essence Prettifying Lip Oil in I care for you, honey (01) and SOS, my heart (03) which both have the same sweet, yummy scent and a gel-like consistency that “melts” when applied to the lips. It’s non-sticky and really comfortable to wear although it doesn’t feel quite as luxurious as some of the more expensive ones I’ve tried. Still lovely though!
I’ve already talked about how much I love the essence longlasting lipliner (here) so I thought I’d swatch this new to me shade, peach beauty (04) which was perfect to pair with the essence BB Beauty Balm in Sweet Dreams (04). I don’t like squeezy tube products, but I was actually surprised by how much I enjoyed this lipgloss, which has moisturizing ingredients like shea butter and vitamin E and is surprisingly pigmented. There are also 4 other shades available.
I put all the products together to create essence makeup look using fall 2016 products. On the lips I have the essence longlasting lipliner in peach beauty topped with the essence beauty balm in sweet dreams. I’m wearing both the essence mosaic blush in all you need is pink and the essence pure nude highlighter on my cheeks. I’ve got a base of the essence I <3 colour intensifying eyeshadow base, and then the essence 2in1 eyeshadow & liner in light me up (inner corner) and peach perfect (lid) on my eyes. The lashes are essence forbidden volume mascara, and I’ve locked the whole look in with the essence keep it perfect make-up setting spray! Phew. That’s it. I love how natural but brightening the look is, and it’s perfect for these winter days when I need all the help I can get to look awake.
And, that’s it for my coverage of the essence fall 2016 makeup! Have you tried any of these new products from essence? Let me know if you have any favourites. I’ve been bad at paying attention to the blogosphere while I’m so busy with work but I’m really curious to see what they launch next!
