Essence does some really cool trend/limited edition collections, and one of the most recent ones is the Essence Cookies & Cream Collection. There are quite a few makeup products in it as well, which I plan to feature in the next couple days (spoiler: they are really good!) but in order not to have the world’s longest blog post ever not written by Kalyn Lord, I decided to divide it up and share the four neutral metallic polishes from the collection first. There are four shades with treat-inspired names, Cake Pop, That’s Top!*, Yummy, Yummy*, Last Night A Cookie Saved My Life* and Macaron, C’est Bon!* They all came with a little sticker sheet with four nail stickers on it, which is a very cute touch for the collection.
Essence Cookies & Cream Cake Pop, That’s Top! is a metallic apricot shade that I think is my favourite out of the four. I know I usually end with my favourite but since these polishes are numbered 1 to 4 I just had to do them in order. It’s a bit streaky with one coat, but I went with two and it looked really good, especially for a metallic. The end result is pretty and opaque, and although they are different than the traditional Essence Color & Go polishes, I really love the brush on this packaging!
Essence Cookies & Cream Yummy, Yummy is an unusual shade which is pretty much a taupe-ish grey, but seems to have some blue in it too. Unfortunately, unusual doesn’t mean its successful and this is my least favourite of the four shades, however it might look better on somebody with a different skintone. I also went with two coats but I found this to still be a bit streaky and sheer compared to the rest of the collection.
Essence Cookies & Cream Last Night A Cookie Saved My Life is a great chocolate brown metallic that I tried out with a couple of the included nail stickers. The nail stickers are cute and apply well but I recommend adding some top coat to smooth them down afterwards and keep them lasting as long as possible. I really like the little cupcake! This polish applied great and had minimal streaking with two coats. I do recommend limiting the number of strokes you do on a nail when applying metallics just to help keep them even.
Essence Cookies & Cream Macaron, C’est Bon! is the more sheer out of the collection, although it has a more even finish than Yummy, Yummy. I went with two coats which gives a very bridal looking finish, still a bit transparent and quite pearly with a pinkish peach undertone to it. Probably not a shade I would wear, but definitely a good formula for a metallic and good for people who don’t want to wear bright purple and glitter all the time like I do.
My favourite shades among the Essence Cookies & Cream Nail Polishes are definitely the more opaque ones which is Cake Pop, That’s Top! and Last Night A Cookie Saved My Life. They are both great metallic shades and I think they’ll be good for fall. The other two shades are more subtle, but like all Essence, these are super affordable. Although I discovered Essence because of their polish, there’s some fantastic makeup in this collection too so make sure to check back to see a review of it as well!
