I talk a lot about how I like easy makeup. It’s true, if I can spray on a primer, or brush on a brow, I’ll take it. So of course I was pretty interested in the brand new Dior Diorshow Brow Styler Gel ($30)*, which is available in three shades: Transparent, Blonde and Brown.
Diorshow Brow Styler Gel comes in a sleek tube similar to a jumbo eye crayon or their Kohl Stick. However, instead of twisting up more crayon, you twist up more of the gel. The two shades should work for a pretty wide range of hair colours, although there’s always the transparent option if they don’t. The shade is labelled on the side of the tube, as well as being colour-coded on the bottom.
The real interesting part of the Diorshow Brow Styler Gel happens once you take off the cap. it has a brush-comb applicator that is definitely unique among my brow products, because the bristles are all plastic. As you twist the bottom, more gel comes out. These are totally gel-based, there are no fibres. As a result, this is a really hygienic and easy to clean product, because you can basically wipe it down to plastic if you want.
The Diorshow Brow Styler Gel in Transparent (001) is a traditional brow gel with no pigment. The amazing thing about these gels is that they are not at all sticky or crunchy when they dry. I comb it through my brows, and although I find it difficult to be really precise, that’s not an issue with the transparent shade. When the products dries it is unnoticeable, but does a pretty good job holding my brows in place. It is not the strongest brow gel I’ve ever tried, so if you have a lot of brow to tame, it might not be ideal, but I like that it doesn’t actually feel as if I’ve applied gel to my brows, and it pretty much does the job for me.
In terms of shades, the lighter one is the Diorshow Brow Styler Gel in Blonde (002), although it is definitely a dark blond shade. I didn’t have any blonde friends to test this on, but I will say that because you are really just tinting any missing areas with this product, it should work for a fair range. However, because this is just a tinted gel, you are not going to want to reach for this product on its own if you have super sparse brows–although it would make a great second ‘layer’ to help seal in your pencil product.
The second shade option is the Diorshow Brow Styler Gel in Brown (003). I recently lamented how difficult it was to find a brow product that worked for my near-black hair and wasn’t too reddish, and unfortunately, this brow gel is not that product. It would work great for a range of brown and auburn colours, but is clearly a mismatch for my brows as you can tell below.
That said, even though the shade is wrong you can see how the Diorshow Brow Styler Gel helps my brows look fuller and gives them a better shape. The unusual applicator did take a bit of practice, but it was easy to wipe anyway gel on my brow bone with my fingertip. I actually found out through swatching that the gel can stain the skin a little bit, which is probably why it does a good job lasting all day. Even when I felt like the gel hold component had worn off, the colour was still there.
I’m always excited about a new beauty product that promises to make my life easier, and I think the Diorshow Brow Styler Gel does a pretty good job fulfilling that criteria. They just need to make it in my shade!
