First there were the lipsticks, then the brow pencils, and today I’m back with the Dior Cosmopolite Fall 2015 5 Couleurs in Exuberante* and Eclectic* which are two limited edition eyeshadow quints, and they’re pretty!
I’ve tried a few different Dior eyeshadow formulas, and I think that the 5 Couleurs palettes are my favourites. I loved the two I tried as a part of the summer collection, the Dior 5 Couleurs Eyeshadow Palette Contraste Horizon and Ambre Nuit so I was looking forward to the fall launches. The Dior Cosmopolite Fall 2015 5 Couleurs in Exuberante and Eclectic come in the same classic, chic black Dior packaging.
A little Dior secret? All Dior eyeshadows can also be used wet! You just gently open the case until the lid “clicks” into place and you can a safe place for a couple drops of water. Using the shadows wet will intensify the look, but I am generally lazy when it comes to wet eyeshadow application, so I’ve been using the Dior Cosmopolite Fall 2015 5 Couleurs in Exuberante and Eclectic dry.
The Dior Cosmopolite Fall 2015 5 Couleurs Eyeshadow Palettes each contain 5 shades (duh) with the middle one being a metallic, almost foil shadow in either gold or silver. There’s actually a bit of a coating on the shadows, but what’s underneath is also quite metallic. The shadows are embossed with the brand name and contain two dual-ended applicators (one brush, three foam ends).
Dior Cosmopolite Fall 2015 5 Couleurs in Exuberante is the warmer palette, and it is quite neutral with a pop of blue. There’s a creamy, milk chocolate satin brown, a slightly iridescent pale peachy pink, an intense denim blue with sparkle, a gorgeous dark brown with a burgundy sparkle to it, and of course, the white gold glitter at the centre of the palette.
Overall the formula on the shadows is pretty nice, a little hard but decently pigmented, and although the palest shade is quite subtle it works as a highlight. The glitter shade is not one I’d get a ton of use out of, but between that and the blue, you’re getting a nice twist on a traditional neutral palette.
Unfortunately because I whimped out of actually using the blue shade (I know!) my makeup look with the Dior Cosmopolite Fall 2015 5 Couleurs in Exuberante ended up looking a little boring, but pretty. I used all the other shades, the lightest as an inner corner/brow bone shade, the light brown all over the lid, darker brown in the crease and actually used the gold on the lower lash line.
I do appreciate the subtle, pretty look of Dior shadows, but I found the wear on the Exuberante palette was not as good as the Eclectic, and they would definitely would benefit from primer. Ultimately, the Dior Cosmopolite Fall 2015 5 Couleurs in Exuberante is nice enough, but not something that totally won my heart, while I really love the palette that’s coming up next…
Now that I’ve built up how much I like the Dior Cosmopolite Fall 2015 5 Couleurs in Eclectic, I should probably talk a little about it. This is the cool-toned sister to Exuberante, and it features a rich burgundy-purple with sparkle, a light grey-ish pink shimmer, a shimmering eggplant, a dark moss green satin and a sparkly metallic silver. Well, I have a hard time describing colours!
Overall, not only did I find the Dior Cosmopolite Fall 2015 5 Couleurs in Eclectic shadows to be creamier and more pigmented, but I thought the shades themselves were also more interesting. This palette is also perfect for both fall and brown eyes.
I also cheated a little when usingthe Dior Cosmopolite Fall 2015 5 Couleurs in Eclectic and skipped the dark green shade. It is really lovely, but you have to be careful when mixing it with the purples so it doesn’t end up muddy, so I just stuck to the purple-tones instead, which is super flattering to brown eyes. I did the exact same thing as the last look with light inner corner, all over the lid with the burgundy and eggplant in the crease. Then I lined my lower lash line with the silver.
I found the wear on the Dior Cosmopolite Fall 2015 5 Couleurs in Eclectic was pretty good, although a primer always helps prevent creasing. I also thought the shadows blended nicely and overall I really loved this palette. I will definitely experiment with that green, promise!
If you are looking to pick up one of the gorgeous limited edition palettes, it’s quite clear what my recommendation is. Although the Dior Cosmopolite Fall 2015 5 Couleurs in Exuberante is nice, the Dior Cosmopolite Fall 2015 5 Couleurs in Eclectic is just that bit more special and would be amazing with brown or green eyes in particular.
