Cult Cosmetics Black Box Review

I love my mail surprises, and I love nail polish, so of course I had to sign up for a Cult Cosmetics Black Box–especially because the first one was 50% off. The promo is still active, just sign up on their homepage (here, not a referral link). The usual price is $20/month plus $5 shipping, so your first box comes to $15. Here’s my first Cult Cosmetics Black Box.

Cult Cosmetics Black Box 2

The Cult Cosmetics Black Box was shipped pretty quickly but it did take awhile to arrive to my Canadian address. However, the box was very well packaged with lots of bubble wrap and some of that annoying crinkly paper in a pretty purple colour. There was a paper print out with the contents on it and no nail art tutorial, though apparently this is changing with latter boxes.

Cult Cosmetics Black Box 3Something I really love about Cult Cosmetics Black Box is that you’re getting brands you know and love, including Color Club, Essie and OPI. These are polishes that cost between $7 and $12 a piece in Canada, so even with the full price box it is definitely a discount. My Cult Cosmetics Black Box came with 3 full size Essie polishes, glitter and spongers for nail art as well as two nail art pens. I was so excited the second I opened my box, and even more pleased when I unwrapped the polishes.

Cult Cosmetics Black Box 4My Cult Cosmetics Black Box contained:

  • Two sponges for nail art like ombre or galaxy nails
  • A pot of gold glitter
  • Color Club Midnight Blue nail art pen
  • Nubar Black nail art pen
  • Essie She’s Picture Perfect
  • Essie Come Here
  • Essie Maximillian Strasse Her

One complaint I’ve seen about the Cult Cosmetics Black Box is getting older colours, but that wasn’t a problem with mine, the green Essie is from the Spring 2013 collection, while the red is from the Resort 2013 collection. The lavender polish is Resort 2012. All three colours are great for summer and none of them are dupes for me. They are all great colours and the only one I was less sure of was Come Here but I think I’m going to keep it.

I also don’t own any nail art pens so I was really happy especially that the Cult Cosmetics Black Box included such a basic black one. Now I have no excuse for not trying nail art! I also definitely plan to use the sponges for ombre nails.

Overall, I was incredibly happy with my Cult Cosmetics Black Box and I spent a long time deciding if I wanted to stay subscribed or not. In the end, for $25 a month I just couldn’t quite afford it and was also a tad nervous about getting dupes. I really did adore this box though and may subscribe again in the future. I’m not sure how long the 50% off promo is on for, but I think it is worthwhile to test out for the price.

What do you think of the Cult Cosmetics Black Box? Should I uncancel my sub? (I’m so tempted!)
