Clinique has really had the beauty world abuzz lately with a whole slew of new shades for their gorgeous Cheek Pops along with a brand new lip product launch, the Clinique Pop Lip Colour + Primer. It promises to be a rich pigmented lipstick combined with a smoothing primer, and there are 16 difference shades including the Clinique Pop Lip Colour + Primer Fab Pop*.
The colour-coordinated packaging is quite cute on all the lipsticks, and Clinique Pop Lip Colour + Primer Fab Pop is a bright baby pink shade. It is definitely white-based, and unfortunately the colour does not apply as evenly as many of the darker shades seem to based on the reviews I’ve seen. It actually reminds me of a hilariously similarly named lipstick I reviewed recently, the Maybelline Color Sensational Rebel Bloom in Hibiscus Pop.
Compared to the Clinique Long Last Soft Matte Lipsticks which I adore, the Clinique Pop Lip Colour + Primer Fab Pop has a more slippery, more moisturizing formula. It does glide around a bit on the lips and I think that is part of what makes it appear uneven. I do find that when I press my lips together while wearing it I can get visible “lines” which is not an attractive look.
You can really tell in the up close lip swatch how uneven the coverage is, but issues with the appearance aside the Clinique Pop Lip Colour + Primer Fab Pop is not at all drying to wear although I find it a bit too slippery for me. In terms of lasting power, it is not at all transfer proof and only lasts a few hours on me, so I’m not sure how effective the “primer” is in this particular shade.
Unfortunately to top it all off, I think Clinique Pop Lip Colour + Primer Fab Pop is not at all an attractive shade on me, so I might have been willing to cut it a little more slack if it was.
Unfortunately, my overall experience with Clinique Pop Lip Colour + Primer Fab Pop is quite negative, but it hasn’t deterred me from some of the other shades, which I think are much nicer. The white-base and baby pink shade is a little tricky, and I don’t think it is successful this time, but shades like Plum Pop look absolutely stunning so I really want to try one to compare.
