There are a bunch of new exciting Clinique Spring 2016 launches, and I’m lucky enough to be able to share a few of them with you, but I thought I’d start off with LIPS because I just love lip products so much. Clinique has added two new products to their “Lip Pop” range, a sheer balm and a gloss. I have the Clinique Pop Lacquer Lip Colour + Primer in Happy Pop*, Sweetie Pop*, Wink Pop*, Love Pop*, and Peace Pop* which is half of the ten shades available.
The Clinique Pop Lacquer Lip Colour + Primer is a pigmented gloss with a thicker consistency, slightly sticky consistency that reminds me strongly of the Urban Decay High-Color Lipglosses. The brighter shades like Happy Pop and Sweetie Pop are definitely the most pigmented, and the tacky nature of the glosses help them last a couple hours on the lips. I tend to prefer a non-sticky gloss, but with more pigmented shades that you don’t want moving around, a formula like this is actually better.
The Clinique Pop Lacquer Lip Colour + Primer comes in lipstick-sized packaging and have a slightly pointed doefoot applicator. The applicator is really effective for applying even the pigmented shades pretty precisely and I definitely think the glosses look cute and cheerful.
The Clinique Pop Lacquer Lip Colour + Primer in Happy Pop (03) is a bright mandarin orange with no shimmer. You can still see the freckles on my lips, but it has nearly opaque coverage and applies very evenly.
The Clinique Pop Lacquer Lip Colour + Primer in Sweetie Pop (04) is a bright pink with no shimmer. This shade is nearly opaque but pools very, very slightly in lip lines which you can see in the lip swatch but it honestly looked perfect from a normal distance (which is why I always try to include full face photos).
The Clinique Pop Lacquer Lip Colour + Primer in Wink Pop (05) is a milky pale rose pink with no shimmer. This shade was semi-opaque and unfortunately did pool into lip lines the most noticeably of the five I tried. It’s definitely not unwearable but it would also work great applied on top of a lipstick or lipliner for a more even finish.
The Clinique Pop Lacquer Lip Colour + Primer Love Pop (06) is a dark rosewood with a hint of shimmer that is not noticeable when applied. This shade was the sheerest of the ones I tried and the colour is heavily influenced by my underlying lip colour, but of course the fact that it’s such an easy, wearable shade makes it my favourite.
The Clinique Pop Lacquer Lip Colour + Primer in Peace Pop (08) is a dark reddish berry with no shimmer. This shade was fairly opaque and applies pretty evenly although up close there is the tiniest bit of pooling into lip lines. From a regular distance, the shiniest of the gloss hides any unevenness and it just looks really juicy to me. This was a surprise love for me!
Overall, I think the Clinique Pop Lacquer Lip Colour + Primer is a fun and colourful addition to the range. While I’ll always get the most use out of neutrals like Love Pop, I definitely recommend checking out some the bright shades as well if you are looking for an intensely pigmented gloss with longer wear.
