I haven’t purchased a new brow gel since my last Benefit Gimme Brow ran out, so the only one I have in my collection is the Urban Decay Brow Tamer, and when I learned Clinique was launching one, I was pretty curious. Unfortunately, I received the two lightest of the four shades available, so while the Clinique Just Browsing Brush-On Styling Mousse in Blonde* and Light Brown* don’t work on my dark hair, I still tried the product out to let you know what I thought and see if it was worth grabbing the Black/Brown option.
The Clinique Just Browsing Brush-On Styling Mousse comes in a small, mascara-like tube with a tiny brush very similar to the Gimme Brow, or what I imagine the Clinique Bottom Lash brush is like. This is a tiny tube (0.07 oz for $16.50 CAN), but so is the Benefit (0.1 oz for $24 CAN) and that lasts me several months.
In terms of value, both the Benefit and Clinique are very similar, with the Clinique being a slightly better value. Plus, it has 4 shades–Blonde, Light Brown, Deep Brown and Black/Brown–which makes the odds of finding a good match twice what Benefit has. Although I have obviously never used a blonde brow product, I know that a lot of them are very warm-toned, so I was pretty happy to see that the Clinique Just Browsing Brush-On Styling Mousse in Blonde was a much more wearable ash blonde shade, while Light Brown is a warm, milk chocolate. I tested out Light Brown when I wasn’t going to be leaving the house, because the shade is clearly not a match, but to be honest the shades are fairly flexible and I could almost make it work.
The Clinique Just Browsing Brush-On Styling Mousse provides a light tint to my brows and helps fill in any missing areas while also holding them in place. It had a really firm, but not crunchy hold that lasted all day. If you really have no brows, this isn’t going to work on its own, but it does a pretty good job on brows like mine that just need a bit of help. Plus, it’s so much faster than using a brow pencil, which I often top with a gel anyway.
Whether you have sparse brows and want a second step following a powder or pencil, or just need an extra boost and appreciate the convenience of a gel, I definitely recommend the Clinique Just Browsing Brush-On Styling Mousse. Since the shades aren’t a match, I couldn’t test out this product as intensely as I normally do, but I was quite happy with the experience I had. It’s great to see more brands getting releasing tinted brow gels! Have you tried one yet?
