I am always interested in trying another haircare line claiming to help with my dry locks, and the most recent one that has attempted is the Clear Intense Hydration Shampoo*, Conditioner* and Treatment Mask*.
The Clear Intense Hydration line comes with a 375 mL shampoo and conditioner, as well as a hair mask that is about half that size (177 mL). The line is for all hair types, and it’s supposed to work on both the scalp and the hair (hence, Clear Scalp & Hair) with its special cactus extract. I’ve been testing this line out for a couple weeks so I’ll give my thoughts on each of the products and my overall impression of the line.
Clear Intense Hydration Shampoo is honestly a pretty standard, drugstore shampoo. I don’t especially like the smell of it, which is somehow worse than either of the conditioning products, or at least stronger. It’s got a fairly thin consistency and lathers okay but not amazing. It is easy to rinse out. I don’t find it particularly hydrating or nourishing on my hair, but it does its job in combination with the conditioning products. This isn’t something I would repurchase given that there are so many shampoos that I love from the drugstore, but there’s nothing horribly wrong with it either, it’s just not super special to me.
I prefer the Clear Intense Hydration Conditioner to its shampoo counterpart, although it still didn’t blow me away. It is quite thick and creamy, and the scent is more toned down. It lathers pretty well. I found using it with the shampoo did a good job decreasing the dryness of my scalp, but my hair only really felt silky smooth when I used the final product, the treatment mask. The conditioner itself is fairly lightweight, and my hair needs something heavier. The bottle itself is also a bit awkward to hold, while the shampoo bottle shape works much better.
So far this is a pretty meh review, not because there’s anything wrong with these products but because there’s nothing super special about them either. That said, I have an easy favourite and it’s the Clear Intense Hydration Deep Hydrating Treatment Mask. This is a really nice hair mask, which comes out of the tube really thick and looking a bit like toothpaste (green and white). You can use it all over your hair, although I always focus on the ends first, and leave it on for three minutes in the shower. The end result is really nice– it not only leaves my scalp hydrated, but also my hair is much smoother and silkier. It definitely helps to minimize frizz.
If you were only to get one product from the Clear Intense Hydration line, and you probably only need one, I would definitely recommend the Clear Intense Hydration Treatment Mask. Lately I have tried a few good drugstore hair masks, and this one is being added to that list. It also has the least noticeable scent of the three products and isn’t one I mind.
In combination, using the Clear Intense Hydration Shampoo, Conditioner and Treatment Mask has decreased the dryness of my scalp but the shampoo and conditioner, although decent, have not done anything super special to my hair. I could see somebody with less dry hair appreciating how light they are, but I’m generally looking for heavy hydration. However, the Treatment Mask definitely offers that, leaving my hair smooth and soft when I use it.
Clear Scalp & Hair has quite a few other lines including a few targeting dry hair like the Frizz Control line and I may have to try one of them in the future to see if it is a better match. In the meantime I am happy to keep using these products and I’m sure my boyfriend will have the shampoo finished in a week because he goes through that stuff like crazy. I will easily finish up the treatment mask, and most likely the conditioner will be lonely until I have a solo shampoo because I never finish conditioner fast enough.
Do you have a favourite drugstore haircare brand? Have you ever tried the Clear brand before?
