Earlier this month I reviewed two face products from the Clarins Opalescence Collection, a complexion base and a cream blush (here). However the brightening spring collection also includes quite a few lip products, and being the lippie-addict that I am, I am so excited to share three more products from the Clarins Opalescence Collection. I have the Gloss Prodige Lip Gloss in Crystal* and Joli Rouge Brilliant Perfect Shine Sheer Lipsticks in Tropical Pink* and Pink Orchid*.
Clarins has signature red box packaging and all of the products are clearly labelled, both on the box and on the tube. The Clarins Opalescence Collection is Limited Edition and includes the Gloss Prodige Lip Gloss in Crystal, as well as Joli Rouge Brilliant Perfect Shine Sheer Lipsticks in Tropical Pink and Pink Orchid. However, there is also a second gloss and a third lipstick I don’t have, both in the shade Coral Tulip.
All the products in the Clarins Opalescence Collection are ones that give a natural, brightening look for spring, and the lip products fit in with that perfectly. None of them are completely opaque, so they let your natural lip colour shine through as well and it doesn’t look like you’re wearing heavy makeup. That also means you can pretty much touch up any of the three products without a mirror. The Gloss Prodige Lip Gloss and Joli Rouge Brilliant Perfect Shine Sheer Lipstick are easy to wear.
Clarins Gloss Prodige Lip Gloss in Crystal is a clear lip gloss that comes in a clear tube so it is easy to see how much you have left. I know it’s a little thing, but I really hate opaque lip gloss tubes. The packaging itself is really pretty, there’s a gold cap with a tiny little Clarins C on it as well as a band of gold around the tube. It has a traditional doe-foot applicator and the product has a light scent to it.
I find the Clarins Gloss Prodige Lip Gloss in Crystal very thick, so I actually have to go into the tube a few times to get enough to apply to my lips. However, on the lips it feels very nice and moisturizing and not too heavy. It gives an incredibly glossy appearance that I think helps make my lips look fuller. It would be great to use on top of a more drying lipstick for a glossy, hydrating, shine although the lipsticks in this collection definitely don’t need it! There are a lot of clear glosses out there, but this one is very nice and because most of Clarins shades are quite pigmented and I am interested to try others in the future.
I have two lipstick shades, and the brighter on is Joli Rouge Brilliant Perfect Shine Sheer Lipsticks in Tropical Pink (19). The packaging on these tubes is really gorgeous. I always find Clarins packaging to be simple but luxe. It looks and feels expensive, but it’s not over the top gaudy or complicated. The bullet has a nice weight to it, and is silver with an engraved C on top of the lid. Clarins is also embossed on the lipstick itself, which is really pretty and makes me not want to use it up to the point that I destroy that. But I love the product so I will anyway. In terms of the product itself, Joli Rouge Brilliant Perfect Shine Sheer Lipsticks in Tropical Pink is a bright pink that is slight coral with subtle silver shimmer. The shimmer adds a depth to the lip colour, but I do find that as it wears away after about 2 hours, there is some silver left behind. That said, this isn’t one of those lipsticks where you can at all feel the shimmer. Applied, this lipstick feels like a lip balm, it is really moisturizing and comfortable to wear. Although it’s sheer, you can definitely build it up for a more opaque colour as well. This is such a perfect colour for spring and summer, and it’s a great way to get a bit of a bright lip while still maintaining control over how bright you make it.
Joli Rouge Brilliant Perfect Shine Sheer Lipsticks in Pink Orchid is a rose pink with a slight silver shimmer in it as well. Like Tropical Pink, it lasts about two hours and does leave behind a very small amount of shimmer. It is actually quite close to my natural lip colour as you can tell by comparing the swatch to the one above with the clear gloss, however it does add a brightening pink tint to it that I think is really flattering, wearable, and pretty. Basically, this is an idea MLBB (My Lips But Better) shade. I will get a ton of use out of this! On the lips, it’s hard to believe that Joli Rouge Brilliant Perfect Shine Sheer Lipstick in Pink Orchid is a lipstick, it is just so perfectly glossy and moisturizing that it is easily one of the most comfortable lipsticks I own. Coverage can be built up, although it obviously doesn’t get quite as Tropical Pink. The lipstick has a faint fruity scent to it (as do all the lip products in this collection), however there is no flavour to it. It just feels and looks so balmy and natural, I kinda want these in all the shades now.
Although none of the Clarins Opalescence Collection lip products I have last more than a couple hours, they are all easy to take with you and apply without a mirror. They are all also extremely comfortable and flattering on the lips, and have a high gloss shine to them that helps make lips look fuller. I also feel like a shiny, slightly sheer lip colour looks natural and perfect for spring and summer, so I will definitely be reaching for my Clarins Gloss Prodige Lip Gloss in Crystal, as well as the Joli Rouge Brilliant Perfect Shine Sheer Lipsticks in Tropical Pink and Pink Orchid quite a bit over the coming months.
Have you tried any Clarins lip products before? So far all of their makeup is blowing me away!
