Apparently, I’m starting to make these FOTDs a thing. I guess it’s a good way to share reviews about a collection or brand while showing what the products actually look like on a face, my face at least. Today’s post features the understated and elegant Clarins Fall 2014 Ladylike Collection, with its consistent classy Clarins packaging. I was lucky enough to try out four products from the collection, all permanent, which are the Clarins Instant Light Eye Perfecting Base*, Clarins Ombre Matte Cream-to-Powder Matte Eyeshadow in Nude Pink*, Clarins Eye Quartet Mineral Palette #13 (Skin Tones)*, and Clarins Rouge Eclat Lipstick in Pink Magnolia*.
Clarins Instant Light Eye Perfecting Base is actually fairly dark to wear on its own, but it does a great job neutralizing the eyelid for shadow application. It comes in a small squeezy tube and I found while it did help the shadows last a little longer, it didn’t brighten them the way some primers might. However, this product also helps make sure that you have a smooth base or eyelid to give the most even application of eyeshadow, something that I think would be especially important as you age.
The second product I tried from the Clarins Fall 2014 Ladylike Collection confused me a bit, and that was the Clarins Ombre Matte Cream-to-Powder Matte Eyeshadow in Nude Pink, because I kinda expected it to be more like a cream eyeshadow base, but it’s really a “creamy” powder. So while they apply in a smooth, easy way that cream shadows do, they are actually a powder. Nude pink is a peach-toned nude that is very subtle and I used it on top of Instant Light Eye Perfecting Base to prime my lids as well as brighten my browbone. I apply it using my finger, and on its own it really does give a brightening effect.
I was especially excited by this gorgeous Clarins Eye Quartet Mineral Palette #13 (Skin Tones) from the Clarins Fall 2014 Ladylike Collection, which can be applied either dry or wet (I swatched it first dry, then wet). Dry, these are quite subtle shadows as well, given a pretty and natural look, which is how I wore them because I honestly can’t bother with applying eyeshadows wet. However, you do get a darker, more pigmented shade when you apply wet, especially with the darker two shades. I do wish there was a little bit more difference between the shades dry, but overall I am happy with the look and it works well if you are looking for something subtle and natural.
In my eye look I used the top right pale matte shade in the inner corner, and a mix of the top left (which has a slight shimmer in it) and bottom right shades on the lid with the darkest matte brown shade from the bottom left in the crease, although the shades blend together even more on my eye than they do in the swatches because my skin is darker on my face than the inside of my arm.
I love the way the eye products from the Clarins Fall 2014 Ladylike Collection look with a nice coat of mascara, as it really gives you a pretty but wearable look that you could easily pair with a darker lip for fall. I can never have too many neutral palettes, but I will definitely have to try an eye look using the shadows from the Clarins Eye Quartet Mineral Palette #13 wet in the future to really take full advantage of it. If you’re not willing to use shadows wet, this quad only works for quite a natural look.
I am absolutely in love with Clarins lip products and I haven’t tried one I didn’t love yet (and not just because they smell fantastic)–the latest from the Clarins Fall 2014 Ladylike Collection was no exception. I got my hands on Clarins Rouge Eclat Lipstick in Pink Magnolia, a shade that was actually brighter on my lips than I expected but not totally outside my comfort zone. And the packaging was just so luxe and gorgeous! This formula is extremely comfortable on the lips and has the kind of balmy texture that means it’s not incredibly long lasting (I can get a few hours) but my lips don’t mind if I have to reapply. This shade has a subtle shimmer in it and I think it works great with the neutral eye look I paired with it.
And there it is all together! I’m wearing all four products I tried out from the Clarins Fall 2014 Ladylike Collection, as described, although of course that’s not super obvious when most of those products get layered on top of each other on my eyelids, but trust me, they look pretty.
The easy standout for me from the Clarins Fall 2014 Ladylike Collection is the lipstick and I definitely want to try more shades from the Clarins Rouge Eclat line. Depending on your needs, both the Clarins Instant Light Eye Perfecting Base and Clarins Eye Quartet Mineral Palette #13 (Skin Tones) may be worth grabbing. I’m also 100% interested in trying out other shades from the Clarins Ombre Matte Cream-to-Powder Matte Eyeshadow collection, as it’s really hard to find good matte eyeshadows and that’s definitely something Clarins has accomplished.
Overall, I think Clarins put together a very classy fall collection and I can see why so many of these products are being made permanent. Every time I try their makeup I find more things I love. What do you think of the Clarins Fall 2014 Ladylike Collection?
