I’ve gotten back into more reading lately and I am (unsurprisingly) loving it! I haven’t been reading much over the last year or two but that is changing and I hope it stays that way. One of the things I really love about reading is the community online, and nowhere is that more evident then with read-a-thons. I have only participated in the 24 hour one before, but there are also week-long ones, some of which have themes, where you try to read as much as you can in a week. There’s one starting next week and this post is my “sign up post” to indicate that I am joining in. I’ll stick to updating this one post with my progress so as not to overwhelm what is mainly a beauty blog, but I wanted to post today to invite you to join in!
Here’s the blurb about it:
The Bout of Books read-a-thon is organized by Amanda @ On a Book Bender and Kelly @ Reading the Paranormal. It is a week long read-a-thon that begins 12:01am Monday, May 12th and runs through Sunday, May 18th in whatever time zone you are in. Bout of Books is low-pressure, and the only reading competition is between you and your usual number of books read in a week. There are challenges, giveaways, and a grand prize, but all of these are completely optional. For all Bout of Books 10 information and updates, be sure to visit the Bout of Books blog. – From the Bout of Books team
These are flexible to change, but my goal for this Read-a-Thon is to finish 7 books, one for each day of the week. Some specific books I’d like to read:
Plus One by Elizabeth Fama- This Side of Salvation by Jeri Smith-Ready
17 First Kisses by Rachael Allen Whoops, finished before Monday! Replace with A Time to Dance by Padma VenkatramanPawn by Aimee CarterThe Lobster Kings by Alexi ZentnerKiss of Broken Glass by Madeleine Kuderick- Two Boys Kissing by David Levithan
Apparently there’s a bit of a kissing theme in my book picks for the week!
Have you ever joined a read-a-thon? If you’re stopping by from Bout of Books, let me know what you plan to read this week! Check back to this post for my updates throughout the week (I’m planning to do them daily).
Monday Update (Day 1):
Currently reading:
Pawn by Aimee Carter
A Time to Dance by Padma Venkatraman
Books completed: Plus One by Elizabeth Fama
Pages read since last update: 631
Total pages read: 631
Notes: It wasn’t the plan but I ended up devouring Plus One today. Like Fama’s last novel I found it really exciting to read. I also started on Pawn but it’s for a buddy read so I’ll be forced to stick to 4 chapters a day, as well as A Time to Dance which is a fun book for a read-a-thon because it’s verse so it’ll help boost my page count. It’s a quiet but intense read so far and I’ll probably finish it tomorrow.
Tuesday Update (Day 2):
Currently reading:
Pawn by Aimee Carter
The Lobster Kings by Alexi Zentner
Books completed:
Plus One by Elizabeth Fama
A Time to Dance by Padma Venkatraman
Pages read since last update: 238
Total pages read: 869
Notes: Finished another book! Yay! Verse novels are awesome for readathons because they’re so quick. I also made a bit more of a dent in Pawn since my buddy read is 4 chapters (out of 20) a day. A Time to Dance was pretty good, quiet but intense and I appreciated it taking place in another country and culture.
Wednesday Update (Day 3):
Currently reading:
Pawn by Aimee Carter
The Lobster Kings by Alexi Zentner
Books completed:
Plus One by Elizabeth Fama
A Time to Dance by Padma Venkatraman
Pages read since last update: 20
Total pages read: 889
Notes: Ugh can we just pretend today didn’t happen? I went to bed before 10 PM (2 hours early) because I was so exhausted, which meant barely any reading happened, I didn’t even manage to read my Pawn chapters for my buddy read! Fail. Hopefully I can make up for it on Thursday.
Thursday Update (Day 4):
Currently reading:
Pawn by Aimee Carter
The Lobster Kings by Alexi Zentner
Two Boys Kissing by David Levithan
Books completed:
Plus One by Elizabeth Fama
A Time to Dance by Padma Venkatraman
Kiss of Broken Glass by Madeleine Kuderick
Pages read since last update: 398
Total pages read: 1287
Notes: Another day, another novel in verse! I also made a bit more of a dent in Pawn and started off Two Boys Kissing both of which I hope to finish tomorrow. I ignored The Lobster Kings because I honestly need to be less tired when I’m reading it, so that’ll be a weekend goal I think!
Friday Update (Day 5):
Currently reading:
The Lobster Kings by Alexi Zentner
Two Boys Kissing by David Levithan
Books completed:
Plus One by Elizabeth Fama
A Time to Dance by Padma Venkatraman
Kiss of Broken Glass by Madeleine Kuderick
Pawn by Aimee Carter
Pages read since last update: 206
Total pages read: 1493
Notes: I finished Pawn for my buddy read and it was to read but really felt like a book one with what was promised in the synopsis barely even starting, and being more of a royalty family book set in a slightly fictional world rather than the revolution heavy storyline I expected. I will pick up book two, but I don’t know, a bit disappointed by it.
Saturday & Sunday Update (Day 6 & 7):
Currently reading:
Two Boys Kissing by David Levithan
Jumping Off Swings by Jo Knowles
Books completed:
Plus One by Elizabeth Fama
A Time to Dance by Padma Venkatraman
Kiss of Broken Glass by Madeleine Kuderick
Pawn by Aimee Carter
The Lobster Kings by Alexi Zentner
Pages read since last update: 152
Total pages read: 1645
Notes: I didn’t really read on Saturday (10 pages?) so I decided to combine these days into one final recap. Even though I missed out on finishing 7 books and only finished 5, I did do a pretty good job on this readathon and I’m overall satisfied. It was fun keeping track of what I was reading and checking in with other people and I will definitely participate again in the future!
